I don't know if you have ever been on an airplane and had a seat by the window.
If you have then maybe you flew over clouds. To some people this looks like a sea. A sea of clouds. Now in a regular sea whats the biggest creature not counting the scary giant squid? That's right. A whale. of course in our world we dont have whales in the sky but this is a fantasy setting. This person probably had a awesome view from way up high and thought man i want a whale in the sky in my fantasy setting. There you go thats what this piece is.
Oh you are looking for the genre of this type of drawing?... pfft i dono my bad ignore all i wrote im retarded.

Whenever you have huge architectural structures, rock formations, creatures etc in a scene, it is important to also have a human or human-sized figure for reference. Otherwise the viewer has no relation to the size and scale of what he's seeing.
This is composition 101. Maybe amateurs like you should approach art by thinking and understanding WHY a certain cliché is used as often as it is, instead of acting like everyone who is relying on the basics is a hack.
I liked what the artists thought - "Oooh, let me draw this fuckhuge sky whale wrapped in clouds like in streams of water, overlay it with crocodile and add hamerhead shark for the nose!"
Looks like generic fantasy from one of those elitist visual arts sites like conceptart.org or cgsociety or whatever is the current meme site for cool elitist kids.

Wow, do you even remotely understand what "composition" means? It has absolutely nothing to do with what you're writing about.
>>2360389
Never watched the guy. Maybe you should stop watching youtube tutorials and actually learn shit properly.

I am fairly certain I have a better understanding of it than you do. Composition isn't just the value statement, focal points and division of the canvas, which is probably the extent of your knowledge about composition. Anything that makes the image fail to read how it's supposed to, whether that's the large, zoomed out value statement, or smaller, more subtle things like scale, balance, edge hugging, tangents etc, is a compositional problem.
NOW I CAN SEE THE WHALES
LOOMING OUT OF THE DARK
LIKE ARROWS IN THE SKY
I CAN'T BELIEVE MY EYES
