the goal is to implement topics in a way that you never have to post more than one drawing a day. the way i was thinking to do this have challenges that require you to draw the topic and if you don't then youre eliminated from the challenge (but not the last artist standings).
that should give us some challenges that have a higher turnover rate so there can be more winners cause odds are people arent going to want to draw the suggested topic everyday for years.
on the site side you'll just have to check a box saying "my submission is of today's topic" or whatever and people can police it with the tribunal/report system.
that's why topics are so delayed. there's no way to police/enforce it without either turning this into a full-time job or having a group of superusers/moderators and I want to avoid both things

unfortunately no, the site is using the cheapest hosting option available ($1/month for the first year) so it really can't handle being an image host. It's struggling to keep up with the ~4k hits per day and that's using roughly 3% of the data it would be using if it were an image host.
if the site keeps growing to the point where it needs funding then i'll throw up a support button and switch to a dedicated server and i'll make it an image host so you can upload directly to it

I don't have much to teach, sorry. With that image I was thinking of how the hue and value change with the distance. So I used a lighter value and bluer hue in the more distant areas to help them recede, and tried to make the foreground "pop" more with warmer hues and darker values, and higher contrast in general. I think the low horizon and big sky and clouds contributes a vast feeling, but in reality I was just too lazy to do something more detailed.

I know people in my art classes who were in their late 20s and early 30s that couldn't draw for shit but at the end of the year, they were better than most of us and they had a full time job and kids. I have noted somewhere the deadline for each drawing.
Example for January : Sunday 10 17 24 31.
Study art everyday otherwise, often related to what I want to achieve. "I want to draw some feet doing this with a ball" -> study feet during the week.
That's how I do things and intend to keep it for this whole year, I found it rather well balanced. Hopefully I manage to keep at it.

To be honest it is kind of confusing if you don't read it, the file upload button kind of implies that you upload an image.
As an aside I don't like how we're forced to upload a thumbnail when php is capable of constraining images as far as I know automatically; try and look into that if you could brobocop!

it already does if you link to an image file directly but it's far from automatic. you have to get the file, determine the type, resize, save it, delete the original. and that's for submissions that are direct links to image files.
if you want it to work with tumblr/DA/imgur then you need to use regex (to my knowledge) to parse the ID from the URL and then feed it through each of their APIs to get a link to the image file. even that wouldn't be so bad if there werent a dozen possible URLs that you need to match so it becomes a nightmare to write the regex unless youre like a wizard.
if i'm lucky then somebody has already written that regex and i can probably get each site working with a couple hours per site. if not i'll have to do it myself which will take a lot longer.
best thing i can do for now is make it more obvious that the thumbnail is optional if your submission directly links to an image file

I'd like to see some minor notes added to the submission. Something limited so no one puts up a life story of what they are drawing.
I'm trying to draw some furry shit right now, and I'm having trouble in certain parts. Still a beginner, so it overall looks like shit, but there's some major weak points I'd like to get over before tackling every other weak point.

Save highlights until everything else is done. Try not to blend them at all except where absolutely necessary, and keep them on their own layer so that you can easily erase or modify them without affecting your underlying work.
You could also try separating the highlights into two layers: a bright, colored, soft edged mark (play with layer opacity and layer mode), and a brighter (closer to white), smaller, crisp core to the highlight that's painted opaquely on a normal layer.
Really what you want to do is a ton of still lifes of objects with different reflectivity, and practice painting highlights that way.
