Hey guys, wanting to be a manga artist using type B4 paper ( pictured right ) and was wondering if I should start drawing smaller compared to left. Also, how are my eyes coming? Started Loomis today and have seen improvement.
Picture got turned upside down. B4 paper on left sorry guys.

you're still drawing eyes in a symbol way.
draw the eye as a sphere and draw the eyelids over it.
Got it, now what about drawing in proportion to the paper since I'm going to be drawing in a comic format?

Not going to realism for my style but an Americanized form of the manga style of it makes sense.

Doesn't matter, your stuff will still look garbage until you actually understand how eyes work.
Regardless of what you're 'going for' your eye drawings look like what everyone who's never taken the time to actually learn to draw eyes looks like.
And when putting eyelids over a sphere it just comes out to looking like the eye from the Flowers of Evil anime.

you still need to draw them as a 3d shape https://youtu.be/Biwd46hfNss flat eyes make your work look like autistic deviant art trash

more like this anon. didn't literally mean put eyelids on a sphere.
they go over it.

The eyeball fits within a socket. The lid doesn't wrap solely around the eye, it's not a perfect circle.
I really suggest if you're going to draw a lot of eyes that you include the surrounding area. The brow, the cheekbone, the nose. The eye is a part of a whole, and it's easy to build bad habits of symbol drawing eyes when you just draw part of the eyeball.
Also, you can get amazing at drawing eyes and that'll end up being the only thing you're good at if you can't draw and place them on a face. Even amazing eyes look garbage on a poorly done face.
some anon posted this a while ago, thought it might be helpful

Like this? I feel like I have been doing this without the sphere the whole time.

Not OP, but that'll help my work
Also quints check'd

not quite anon, im going to say you should practice some fundamentals, then tackle subjects like the eyes or other forms. So you'll have somewhat of an understanding of the masses
The eyes are all facing forward and also looking in a direction. Haven't done much with side views yet for eyes.
A quick scribble
More people should start with some perspective, it's a lost art among those who focus solely on the figure in an attempt to learn.

Step 1) Read keys to drawing
This book will cure you of your symbolism
Step 2) Read perspective made easy
This book will teach you to think in 3d
Step 3) Study human anatomy starting from basic proportions and simple shapes
This will get you into drawing humans properly
Somewhere along the lines you can study how light and colour works for when you want to render your drawings

last time I worked as a background artist for some doujinshi guy, they used B5
If you're still into this manga bullshit
get what the japanese are using traditionally
those
G-pen, Kabura Pen and maru pen
oceans of drawing ink, and pencils for sketching
don't bother with screentones their expensive for a beginners

I have to say that "Keys to Drawing" are really good. When I opened Loomis and Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain I was "meh" and didn't really progress with anything. When I opened "Keys" I read first 2 pages and grabbed a pen and did a sketch of glass jar.

Ironic, considering the first one isn't realistic in the slightest, while the second one has a stylized face that lacks form.
At least the idea behind it is correct.

Thanks for the input. Loomis only appealed to me so much with the info he had but I'm going to give these books a look later tonight.

More from this artist, relevant to your preference OP

No anon, all your eye drawings look flat. They don't trick the viewer into thinking they look 3D. Thats why you construct an eye as a sphere and wrap the shape of the eyelids over that simple form because its easy to understand. You are also missing defining details like the tear duct and eyelashes. Proko has a good video on eye anatomy if you want to check it out.

This kind of attitude makes me sick. Even in manga they have fucking eyelids and eyes that look like eyes. The reason they draw them the way they do is, because of the type of eyelids that Japanese people have, but they still have eyelids. Even if they don't the eyes look like eyes.
Learn how to draw from life, before you start trying to simplify shit you don't know how to draw yet.

Go and practice drawing fucking circles properly
