what's your new year art resolutions, /ic/?
>>
>>2328491
to actually accomplish something this year
>>
>>2328491
Start livestreaming
Learn rendering
Get work or failing that
Launch indie comic and patreon
Bonus - start youtube stuff
>>
>>2328491
I never stick to them. But I would like to focus more on draftsmanship, discipline, and solving mental health issues.
>>
git gud enough to support myself entirely with art.

get to a level where i can justify going to trojan horse and not feel like a fraud

experiment more

>>2328505
what's your stream name homie?
>>
>>2328534
it's darke_imp on twitch. I was gonna kick it off this week but I got kinda sick. I really don't have a plan for the first stream, no idea how to run something like it, but what have I got to lose, right? What's Trojan horse?
>>
>Build some muscle mass.
>Stop being a pussy with portraits.
>Refine my painting technique.
>Get some basic commish work going.

I don't normally write down anything for these.
Though last year was pretty good for fulfilling my goals.
>>
Draw more. Draw everyday.
Do more life drawing and diligent studies. Do better and finish something, however shitty it will be. Get over it, show my work and be accountable.

Going back to school, looking into their art department. Maybe find a way to sell paintings to tourists. I'll figure it out.
Good luck with your resolutions, here's to d/ic/king around
>>
>>2328555
Forgot.
I've gotta start going to life drawing sessions too.
>>
Fill at least one sketchbook a month throughout the entire year.

Starting in May start producing at least one finished image a week from imagination.

Go cafe sketching at least once a week.

Get my work to a level where I can take on commissions or start a comic, at least by November.

By the end of the year have an idea of what direction I want to go in with my art.
>>
Actually start drawing again. I spent the first half of the year draw 4-6 hours a day, then in June I had a depressive breakdown over my lack of progress and I've been too focused on not killing myself to care about drawing.
>>
>>2328491
Be at a level where I wont hate myself whenever I look at my art. And maybe get at least one commission.
>>
Continue to draw 2 hours a day on average.

Cover more of the fundamentals. Can into values, color, light & shadow.

Get comfortable using the tablet.

It's going to be a busy year for me with non-art stuff, so I'm trying to stay realistic.Basically just want to maintain the daily habit, and let slow improvement take its natural course.
>>
To grind discipline, mostly:

Draw EVERY day.

Incorporate it into programs on a semi-regular basis.

Try to use assignments as launching pads for my artwork instead of obstacles to barrel through at the last minute.
>>
Last year I had the resolution to draw at least 30 minutes every day, which was easy, so coming 2016 I will start doing 1 drawing every day which I will have to spend at least 1 hour on.
And of coarse, git gud
>>
this >>2328534 and this>>2328555

(I actually started 2 days ago with portraits, did physical exercises when I woke up, and in about five min I am going on lolg to do some free requests)
>>
>>2328491
300dpi lol

real talk tho: finish a few comics for small press publications friends are doing (at the minimum, hopefully write/illustrate somethin for a big existing pub by the end of the year), get things done faster, do more commissions, finish some short but dense/flashy animations for portfolio, learn 3d modeling/animation, learn to code, fucking move, figure out how prescriptions for medication work when moving to a different state, suck more cock, kiss more titties lol

Draw every day

Start taking digital painting seriously

Finish all the art books that are still left

This year has been terrible.
>>
>>2328491
>NEET
>play games
>eat ice-cream
>read books
>chill
>draw more guys instead of just girls all the time
>>
>>2328491
start trying basically
I'm a lazy piece of shit, any tips from other lazy pieces of shit who became worthwhile human beings?
>>
To go back to school. Grown-ups weren't kidding around when they said "stay in school kids."

Get a better day job.

Build up my youtube channel and start streaming.

Grind the fun-da-mentals.

Finish my anime backlog since 2013 before I add new shows to the list.
>>
Get better at fundamentals.

Get comfortable at sketching in pen

Go to art school cuz free education ftw

I'm going to finish my country's equivalent of high school this summer.
No I am not underage b&, recently turned 18.

Overall
>not fall into depression and excuses again. Things are way better now, too.
>Start actually figure drawing again
>Start doing studies more. I enjoy doing them and I improve a lot from them, but if I fuck them up I just feel like shit.

I think my goal after school is to get a job and rake in some dosh while drawing as much as I can on the side.
>>
Do a commission - I don't really care what and don't care much about the money, it's just a bucket list thing, but I want it to be something I'm interested in at a value I'm happy with, rather than furry porn for 10 dollars or something just to cross it off.

And start reading books / in depth tutorials again. I did this a lot when I started but once I found my comfort zone I tapered off, and I think it dampened my progress a bit.
>>
Give up on concept art/illustration.
Make $$$ doing fetish porn instead.
>>
start using sketchbooks again
try to draw everyday and at least make one big illustration per month
build a portfolio
maybe go to the con nearby
>>
Try to git gud with digital painting
Start doing commissions
>>
Stop being a lazy piece of shit that holds a pencil once every two weeks and blames it on his schizophrenia for not doing anything.
>>
Grind the fundamentals more.

Draw for at least thirty minutes everyday

attempt to learn how to draw people
>>
>>2328534
>git gud enough to support myself entirely with art.
>>2328557
>Draw everyday.
>>2328569
>Get my work to a level where I can take on commissions

>>2328683

>Draw EVERY day

>>2328796

>>2328853
>>2330063
>>2330079

OK, there are at least 15 people here who want to draw every day and/or to become a pro, just like me.

Would you like to make some sort of support group?
Deliberate practice is hard work, and getting some peer pressure could help us achieve our goals - what do you think?
>>
>>2330110
Groups only slow you down. You don't need 'support' aka ass rubbing to comfort you. You need discipline and someone to tell it to you straight when something looks like shit.

It'll go like this:
Asspat group
You: "How does this look guys?"
Support friend: "Wow it looks great, kouhai! But work on X a little bit :-/"
You:"Okay thanks!"
>You (mind): They said it looks great, that means I'm improving!

compared to
Mentor/Friend
You:"how does this look"
Mentor:"It's bad and heres what you need to improve on. Get on screen share and lets talk about your fuck up"
You: Thanks for pointing me in the right direction and what exactly I need to improve on.
Mentor: Shut up and draw
>>
>>2330134
>You need discipline
That's why I need peer pressure for.
I already know what I need to improve.
>>
>>2330146
You will not experience any sort of peer pressure on this board I promise.

Paint a fuckton, try to have a booth somewhere and sell some shit and make some money

stop hiding in a basement

maybe try applying to an art college and hope I can get some sort of scholarship with my stuff
>>
Do more with my comic. I can't just keep settling for 'post on Tapastic and call it a day', I need to actually put some backbone into releasing prints, increasing exposure and improving the quality of the pages themselves

Practice fundamentals and actually define a style to push myself towards. I had a bad scare when I saw a post on Facebook from a year ago with an old drawing of mine and realized that I have gone this entire year without any noticeable improvements. I'm outlining steps to ensure that I actually focus on improving my craft instead of just doing it on autopilot
>>
>>2330148
Why?
>>
Become so muscular none of my old clothes will fit me.
>>
>>2330164
Thanks for my new desktop background
>>
>>2328491
my previous resolution was to make money with art. i didn't make it. this time it will be to get better at art in general.
>>
To sellout
>>
1. Practice everthing that is important to my goal every day.
2. Learn composition and animation (that I have absolute no idea how it works I just have a notion of figure drawing) and then make my own chinese cartoon
3. Make good fan art
4. Do commissions
>>
>>2330134
how do i get a mentor then
>>
>>2331472
You hire them.

Last year's was to train more.
I did, but it didn't show, because I trained in a variety of things without focusing on certain things enough.
This year I'll try to work in a way that'll actually show in my work, even if that means brutally dragging my old stylistic learnt hindrances off into a whole different direction.
...That, and just plain working even more.

I want to seriously start working on this book idea I have. Been casually developing it over the last few months, feel like I've got a good general plot just need to develop characters and some other things.

draw pretty girls, maximum comfy
>>
>Use reference when I draw
>Actually do studies
>Start uploading my work more frequently to the internet
>Learn more Zbrush
>Improve and have fun
>>
>>2332781
is that because it's you comfort zone or because girls are comfy? my comfort zone is wrinkly old men with gaunt cheeks and thousand yard stares, not sure if that'd have the same result
>>
to be the best artist of my age
>>
ive been drawing a lot of cartoony furry crap for the last 4 years. ill star reading the sticky the next month.
>>
I'm going to stop posting on this board and move on to reddit or concept art, or wherever the fuck else. This place is a lost cause because of all the retards that somehow found their way on here. /ic/ hasn't been the same since 2012-2013, and it's so bad now that it's no longer worth my time to keep visiting.
>>
To never let my job stop me again.
>>
>>2333031
i just enjoy drawing girls. it's fun.
>>
I'm gonna reinforce my knowledge of figure drawing and perspective. I also plan to study values in depth. My real goal is to actually get over my anxiety of drawing things that aren't just total copies of a ref and draw for myself.
>>
Animate a short film.

I got a high-powered computer for Christmas and I'm quitting my job next month. Wish me luck, kazoku.
>>
>>2334095
you better be really young and/or really rich.
>>
play less and draw more. dont let work or classes be excuses to not draw and just play vidya
>>
>>2334095
I'm married.
I saved up enough to cover my portion of the bills for the next two years, just so my husband can continue to buy things he likes without worrying.
>>

>>
To actually start drawing and not give up. I hate how it looks so I don't draw but I won't get better and the awful cycle continues.
>>
Get better at engraving.

>start commissions
>draw more in general

And as always, continue the quest to git gud.
>>
Small weekly projects to give myself the satisfaction of completing things rather than aimlessly drawing
>>
i really really like the idea of being a good artist, and when i look at other people able to create things that other people like so much they save, it makes me envious. i want to be able to do something like that. i just want to find the motivation to keep grinding even though i'm super super awful.

seeing no results really sucks for me.
>>
>>2334546

It sucks for everyone, princess. Get over the 'idea' of being an 'artist' and just fall in love with beautiful things, fuck anything and anyone else.
>>
>>2334558
Fucking this
>>
>>2334558
its not that i like want to be able to say "hey im an artist xD" but i want to be able to make original things that illicit some kind of positive emotional response from people.
