Who is the author of this one? Is beautiful.
>>2325771
Why this work is not as famous as the David and the Pietá? It is pure genius.

Man, I hate art historians. look what this faggot, Kenneth Clarck, says about this work. He says that it "scarcely deserves its notoriety"
https://books.google.com.br/books?id=v4YVBgAAQBAJ&pg=PA413&dq=marco+agrate+St+Bartholomew&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjpo4aGkPjJAhWIG5AKHecLDhc4ChDoAQgbMAA#v=onepage&q=marco%20agrate%20St%20Bartholomew&f=false
May I ask, why? Its a powerful and awe striking figure, so why it dosent deserve to be famous? Why are Michelangelo's slaves works of genius, but not this nightmare of a work?

why is the thumbnail so good, but when I click on it so bad? is it the stylistic choses in hair eye, nose and fingers? is it because of no hard deep definitions on the body?

Looking through these, I find it odd how modern sculptures seem to lack something. It might be the commercial aspects, but the vast majority of modern sculptures seem to have this cartoony, superficial element to them. They can be incredibly detailed and well made, but they lack the subtlety and beauty of the Greek, Roman and Renaissance sculptures.
I've seen this in a lot of CGI as well. Most creatures and models seem to based on the same, slightly cartoony style, both in looks and animation. Even the physics feel off.
>>2327721
This one seem pretty realistic and far from superficial.
Glad this thread was made, statues are great for learning, especially for values.
>tfw some of these statues are hotter than real women
Why boner?

“Art is the process of evoking pity and terror, which is not abstract at all but very human. What the self-styled modern artists are doing is a sort of unemotional pseudointellectual masturbation . . . whereas creative art is more like intercourse, in which the artist must seduce -- render emotional -- his audience, each time.”
Here's a pretty recent one, and I see what you mean about it looking cartoony
>>2334004
I'm really curious about what exactly it is that makes that effect though.

Wouldn't be cheaper and better quality to buy a copy? Maybe a plastic or a gypsum one?
>>2339264
You can choose modern materials for sculpting. I suppose carving is harsh and unforgiving indeed.

Knee distance to face is off, curveture of torso is off, angle on arm is off, angle of head is off, destance between the legs are off.
Think in shapes first. Negative space.

>The douche posting absolute trash
Bye.
Imagine spending 3 years to do a kitschy sculpture of an idealized pornstar not even giving a fuck about the hair. Just imagine
The good thing is that it was probably done with a gypsum mold so at least he didn't waste his time
>>2340598
What is this shit
post more Jean Baptiste
How are these kistsch pieces done? The way the eyelashes, hair and nipples are made makes me thin of casts, the texture also makes me think of 3d printing

there are specific tools to make that effect, you 'just' do the shape of the cords and shave it off
like bernini's hairs for example in louis xiv, it was done with a specific tool
it doesn't take away any of the magic though. just think about it, they'd save months of work, get a more predictable result, and they avoided mistakes for the most part. imagine chiseling this the scrub way and ruining it
