Actually, I've noticed a lotta women devote a shitton of time to art. One of my old mentors was female and was very good at art. I think you have this perception because of your individual experiences with female artists.

Honestly you are probably right.
All of the women in my program are good students, but not good artists. It just feels like they are going along for the ride. I will say that some of them actually have great talent when it comes to technique and painting. But I cannot shake this feeling that they don't work with all of their mind, heart, and soul. Art seems like a secondary aspect of their lives instead of a full devotion.

Look being good isn't a gender issue, there are plenty of good male and female artists. Jade-Law, a concept artist and art director, was on here. Sketchy-chan. That's just on here, for professionals there's Karla Ortiz, Janaschi, plenty of MTG illustrators, etc.
Art's just hard in general dude, to get good at it is insanely tough. A lot of men and women will give up on it.

Actually I think those are bad examples. In that sort of realistic fantasy illustration and concept art fields there is a huge gender imbalance. There are a few women but they are outliers. It's a heavily male dominated field. Just look at the credits on large titles, or look through issues of Spectrum and count the number of images by men vs women.
There's plenty of women artists (in fact they outnumber men in most arts programs) but they tend to go towards other fields of art like editorial, children's book, fine arts etc.

Because women can just skate through life if they're at least a 6/10 in appearance, and even if they're ugly most fathers won't kick them out past 18 like their sons.
When a man decides to do something they have to either see the profit potential as real and achievable or give up on their dreams completely. There's no parental safety net, sugar daddies, welfare babies, or alimony for men to fund the time for passions to flourish over time. It's now or soon or nothing for men.
Women, on the other hand, keep all their dreams whether they've proven potential or not as hobbies they do for fun. They like it, they do it. They don't need the cash so at most they'll delude themselves into thinking they can become famous, but without financial strife they'll never have a true fire under their asses.
Of course there are exceptions to what I'm saying for both sexes. If something only happens 8/10 times. The fact that it doesn't happen 10/10 times does not dismiss the trend or make the generalization invalid.
