This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make stylized work in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.
Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, have fun.

If I remain at this level for awhile yet I hope things at least become more intuitive for me. I feel like every drawing no matter how low-brow takes an immense internal struggle full of second guesses and sad concessions when I realize I just can't solve a problem
I want to try some stylized stuff but I always draw fanart. How the hell do I come up with some random character to test this on? How do you guys just draw people?? I know this sounds crazy but I seriously don't know how to decide what to draw.
Second try, still just a pencil drawing.
>>2320423
If you can't think up a character try combining elements of characters that already exist, like when people draw hex fusions, except less exact. The result might be a bit generic but it's a fun way to pass time.
>>2320430
I actually considered doing that the other day when I saw an actual one of those fusion charts someone posted, thanks for reminding me anon. I think I'll try that.
>>2320423
Spider-Man is the best character to test styles with.
If it doesn't work on Spidey, it's not worth developing further.
>>2318994
Finished the initial sketch, I like where this is going, thanks everyone for the help so far!
>>2320452
While the Web Head is my favorite superhero, I really think I need to lay off the fanart for this one. That's a good litmus test though, I'll have to keep it in mind for the future.

something about this rubs me the wrong way
maybe she's a bit too shiny?
Do you start with the head or torso
I feel like I fuck up proportions either way.
I tried robo beaning, but it feels so awkward.
>>2321279
my process is
>circle for the head
>circles for the joints
>circles for the hips
.circles for the rest of the joints
I know there's still a lot to do, but i can't get the colours to work on the cat
some suggestions please?
>>2320515
lol faggot nice thread again, i see your fingers are still broken.
>>2321289
how is she running with the broom brushing against the snow like that while carrying presents? Cat looks like it's walking and not keeping up with the same pace as kiki.By the way why didn't this dumb bitch tie up all the presents together with some kind of rope so none of it falls like how the cat's box is? Anyway why doesn't she just fly on the broom and tie the presents to it with the cat in her bag or some shit? She's not gonna make her deliveries on time if shes doing it on foot.
>>2321289

>>2321608
She looks disproportionally small compared to him, his face looks a bit crooked.
The foreshortening on his right leg doesn't look right and what's with the differently colored sketch lines? Just wondering...
I'm gonna try to do something new to me and leave the linework for last, do any of you do that? I'm also trying to be a bit more rough with the rendering and work on a single layer (for each section) for the most part, I feel like I'm very meticulous when it comes to doing the linework and rendering... almost to a fault.
What do you guys think so far?

Ryoko from Haruhi because 'tis the season
>>2321698
That has a lot of anatomy problems. Not the proportions, it just looks flat. You draw that with poses inside your comfort zone.
>>2321735

>>2321751
it literally dosent look flat at all you dummy.
>>2321751
Redline the anatomy problems.
>>2321698
whats your render process ?
how do you keep those visible edges with those light vlues ? I mean there no strong shadows its really subtle.
>>2321626
Right shoulder needs to be moved around a bit and the left shoulder needs to be moved up, also neck's not the right shape. You probably shouldent have the blue suit go all the way up to her chin, it looks unnatural and would be better if there was some kind of gap
I like the shoujo style of it though, really nice
>>2321751
If you can, please elaborate on what you mean, I don't really understand. I do know that the pose I did is nothing too out of the ordinary, so I agree it's within my comfort zone.
>>2321819
It's very simple actually, I just lay down a thick line with the brush tool then use the water tool to water down one of the sides, I also highlight the part where the strongest shadow meets the base color.
>>2321857
I'll work on those, specially the shoulders.
And thank you!

Glad I could help! lol
>>2321646
do you actually want CC or are you trying to get CC for like a non conformist style?
>>2322146
I know you're going for a particular style and look but I can't help feeling like her torso doesn't dip in enough at the hips, and that the boob on the left side (her right) is too low, even for a more natural hanging look. Also I feel there should be more overlap of the thigh and pelvis. Looks nice though, kind of reminds me of Fujiko from Lupin the 3rd.
>>2322154
I want CC for conformist and non conformist. Every viewpoint counts.

its shit
>>2322254
You're female, right? Gay?
No way a straight dude would paint this
>>2322271
I don't think it's shit. It's not complete yet.
If it's supposed to be stylized in this flat style, the colors need to pop.
If it's supposed to have more detail, it needs extra work to increase depth and detail
>>2322271
its actually pretty good and would like to see your art
>>2322254
all your faces are fat, all your necks are wrong in direction and partly in form as well as some being fat, no sense of form, everything is stretched horizontally. your tits have a beginning of form but the towel loses all that, that palm is fat but of the finger are too small, theres quite a lot to be honest id recommend you do some pencil studies instead so you get the base before going full render.
>>2322274
I am a straight dude, bloke, man, guy, boy and artist who worships image of goddess
>>2321698
A lot of the angles are wrong. Like the breasts are facing one direction and the body another. You also started to draw waist definition-we can see the one line- but then you kinda merged the like that was supposed to define her midsection into like one unpleasant butt line. The 'v-line' and leg are also attached improperly (the lines to show muscle definition/body shape are in the wrong place.) It kind of looks like you drew like a typical elongated 'yaoi' man boy and are having trouble merging it into a woman's body.
Are you using a reference? Hopefully pic attached will help you see what I mean. (sorry its so small) Your coloring is nice and your lines are alright, so fixing that anatomy will really help bring it to the next level. I might take a shot at doing a bit of redlining later.
>>2322319

Takes like 2 seconds to draw over something. I don't trust wall-of-text crits from anonymous losers like yourself.
was recommended to post here instead of the beginners thread.
Any helpful tips and pointers are appreciated. I dono how to improve to be honest. The largest improvements i had was by not drawing for large periods of time but that isnt productive and bs imo so solid pointers on how to improve would be appreciated~

studying legoman, need to get my sketch game up
>>2322146
The movement gets kind of stiff as you go lower. Maybe try curving out the butt a bit more and raising it? The flatness from the torso also stems from a similar problem I think, since you are being very digestible with the rendering, you have to compensate with the line art to give your image depth, which is what i'm assuming you want atleast a bit of seeing from the rendering of her face..

>>2322605
So make her a bit curvier on the lower side? Kinda make it seem like she's arching her back a little more? I can try that, I was going for a "peachy" ass shape so Bayonetta's would seem even more outrageously big, haha.
Maybe I should add more contrast to the rendering, I'm always too afraid to go too dark.
Thanks for the help!
>>2322591
overall p cool imo but the diff shading style in the face and the rest is soooo jarring. I think you should stick with the cool cel ish type shading and not do soft shading ya know? but that just my opinion

>>2322750
>Know any better porn artists?
In comparison to Leogman? There are too many to count. Most of them are JPN since there's a much better market for that stuff there than in the west. Honestly, you should be studying more than just porn artists in the first place because porn is generally among the lowest form of art considering what it sells.
But if I had to name a few, NeWMen, Orushibu (pic related), Shiwasu no Okina, Bobobo, Zunta, Charm Point.
You should really just go to the to the porn thread if drawing porn is your main goal >>2320760

>>2322768
>Thanks lol. I just wanted some new fap material.
>>2322591
you have no idea what youre doing with the shading, anime characters still follow rules of light you know, just with simplified forms. Look at something like this and understand your face still has the basic shapes like the cheeks and stuff, and it looks like youre fine with not choosing muddy colors

If you want to draw as badly as the cover art is then yes it's good
honestly I've found the best way to get your animus in is to just learn traditional art and then read an asston of mangos and pay attention to the technique
>>2323419
You need a steadier hand. Your linework is shaky. Maybe try the first bit of Peter Han's Draw-A-Box video for a few hours. Is this done with micron?
I feel like this would look so cool and polished if only it had clean linework, but it feels like a sketch. Also, the shadows inside the speaker holes seems like it may be unrealistic, you should reference the speaker more in general.
The tip of the gun has shaky linework, and makes it look like it's pointing slightly upward, unlike the barrel.
Overall idea's pretty cool, IMO. Things just seem rushed or sloppy.
>>2323667
this is fun. the figure is the strongest part of the piece and the rest kind of doesn't work for me. i think if you were more mindful of your edges (ie keeping them crisp/soft when they need to be) it would really take your painting farther. maybe have her hold something with her free hand. i'm starting to get a bit of a mark ryden influence thinking about your painting more. give the painting more context. make the background actually something rather than splotches. if you're going to keep it splotchy at the very least make it more blurry than the figure, because right now it fights with the figure both in tonal contrast and in crispness of the lines. make the hat more ornamental. ties in with what i said about giving her something to hold and the background. anyways these are just things that came to my mind you can choose to take however much of my advice you want.

>>2323750
Done with roller ball pen, not micron.
I'm aware of the hand shakiness, a while back I had horrific line quality but it's still not quite "clean" yet.
As for the speaker, I just shaded in a simple cone, although now that you mention it I could've added some reflected light on the edges/center.
Couldn't find a video called "Draw a box", but I'm assuming you mean http://drawabox.com/lesson/1

>>2323841
Woah, the perspective looks so much better, thanks for doing this.
I don't know if it's a little too late to rework it but I'll definitely keep this in mind, thanks for redlining it!
>>2320460
i think the biggest issue is your legs look rather formless where they attach to the hip for samus. because she's wearing a skin tight suit, it's good to put in that cross contour where the top of her thigh folds into her abdomen.
in proportion to the rest of her body, samus' arms are rather thin. even if this is samus' zero suit form and the style is anime, she's going to have more muscle definition than from what you see of her smash model.
her forearms are slightly too long because i think you're not accounting for her wrist bracelet things being apart of the forearm length
when it comes to bayonetta, it's more acceptable to draw her super exaggerated (limbs, contortion, ass etc.) but i think her upper torso is drawn too flat and thin, even at that angle. there are a lot of over the shoulder pictures out there of celebrities so look at them for that back muscle definition and torso volume. her shoulder s need to be broader, especially with her pointy shoulder pad things
the shelf of the butt is drawn well but i think her hips/legs are too big in proportion to her torso and head even if you're shooting for anime type exaggeration. I think making the torso more substantial will help. Again, the arms here are rather stick like and stiff, even for bayonetta. some slight definition. Observe of the size and volume of the arms in comparison to the rest of the body, they're also too short for her body.
lovely linework and detail though. There is some great movement with how you drew their hair and their overall poses are appealing to look at.
>>2324626
Nigga you turned Bayo into a male.
>>2320515
back looks broken, finger's don't need to be individually defined. draws too much attention there. face needs plane indication
nice rendering though, dig the mixing of hard and soft edges

>>2324652
Grachh?
Isn't your pen pressure on your tablet fucked or something, is that why your lines are uniform width now?
Not a bad thing at all, mind you
>>2324626
Why do some people who think they can redline always insist to never take into account the intent of the original stylization. Are you unfamiliar with shoujo anime stylizations anon? Your draw over is pretty useless given it doesn't take into account the intent style of the original piece. Why even bother?
>>2324711
even if the style of the redline is different than the op's, the written critique is still sound.
i don't expect ppl to ever copy/trace redlines line for line, they're more there as a visual guide when it's harder to describe things through words. its like providing a reference image of a similar pose. you dont expect the artist to suddenly do a hyperrealistic painting of that photo reference. it's just there as a guide.
>>2324705
maybe they're just blocking in colors. i know some ppl do color blocks and then use mixer brush for texture
>>2324640
I can barely tell what that is because I can tell you don't understand how to write it normally, much less as a hanko.
>>2322965
for thick clothing, make sure you don't follow the bodyline too closely. right now the clothes are hugging the skin too tightly.
and on the other hand, make sure to give enough hints so that people don't think she's fat or something.
try to experiment with it. for example you can give her some fluffy or even oversized clothes, as long as you show a thin neck or maybe the wrist, people will understand that she isn't fat.
right now it's like you don't want the clothes to make too much of a sillouhette on their own.
im sorry if its too tumblr like
>>2325251
>>2324876
the style and how the pine needles are one stroke with no pen pressure variance
(also because I've followed you for a long time on here and Tumblr back when you were Norwegian Bird and did those sick drawings with the water color tool based brush that you made)
I tweaked ZSS a bit based on all the critiques you guys've given me, thank you! I know nothing changed significantly but I think I'd have to rework her from the ground up to get it right, again, thank you! Moving onto Bayo now.
>>2324626
>>2324641
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a critique /and/ redline my work, although I gotta say it's a bit hard to know what exactly is wrong when your redline is so different than what I did, but you certainly have more correct proportions than I do.
I don't like pulling the "muh style" card because I always try to apply any critique I get into my work but when it comes to the thinness of their limbs and lack of definition, both of them are stylistic choices, my main genre of influence is called Josei which is mainly famous for the "Yaoi hands" but you'll also notice other characteristics like long, thin limbs and very washed out/airbrushed-style of shading.
I'm trying to adapt that style while giving it my own spin. This doesn't mean I'm disregarding your critique, I just hope you understand some of the stylistic choices I've made and.
And thank you! I did some studies of Gustav Klimt a long time ago which REALLY influenced the way I draw hair and female bodies.
>>2324652
This looks really cool, I love the palette you chose and the simplicity of the rendering. It looks great so far, I hope you add more dynamic lighting.
>>2325356

>>2325358
Dude, the main changes you need to make to have her look right are so minimal, at least they would be easy enough changes in photoshop, but I can't imagine they're too bad in Sai. It looks like you didn't change anything, but all you need is a tiny bit of definition in a few places and to raise one of her boobs. Oh well, I guess I can only hope you'll apply it to your next drawing.
>>2325351
Cool!
(did you like the older stuff better? asking for a friend :^))
>>2325358

>>2325370
I will raise her right boob (right?) I did raise it very slightly but I do need to raise it more.
I will shorten her left arm, I guess I was just a little too lazy to do it since it'll require a bit of work because Bayo and Samus' outline are in a single layer lol
Could you point out where more definition is needed?
>>2325383
I don't think you should mess with the arms personally but yes to the boob, her right boob the one on the left of the picture. Again on her right, there's not enough of a dip in indicating the bottom of her ribcage leading up to the sternum, caving in and fanning back out to the top of her right pelvis. And that line indicating the top of her left thigh, on the right, needs to curve downward instead of sloping up towards her hip. The way it is now is making her leg look flat instead of like it's protruding from a socket.

I feel like your new stuff has more of a unique identity and direction but your line-art back then was really good and expressive too
I like Ligne claire/ Franco Belgian flavored stuff and I like line weight variation too so
>>2325602
It's nicely done, but I'll never understand the appeal of a giant girl messing with a city.
I prefer a girl messing with shrunken girls.
To each their own I guess.
Also the planes look really jarring,
>>2325641
Reminds me of when i used to draw more things and not only animu girls before my breakdown. tight shit dude
Haven't been in this thread much. What do you think about my stylization
some of these are kinda old
More old art
>>2321283
your process seems...
>>2321283
Well rounded
>>2322526
too short,
the lower leg is shorter then the upper leg
the lower leg can be longer then the upper leg though
>>2322589
For your next piece make a few sketches first. and block out the lighting.
Draw the hands in advanced, especially if you're showing both
>>2322597
you did gestures, they do construction, you did anatomy, they do shapes
at most I think you did really well but you're missing the point of studying. Might as well say you drew one of their pics in your own style.
>>2322748
Because they're successful.
You shouldn't judge people like that, ever.
>>2322965
draw it that way, think if there was armor. it would have it's own shape and it'd be on top of her, and it would have it's own thickness,
At least the edges of the sweater. Make those thick and most would understand the sweater is big.

Help on legs especially, please. Actually working in perspective is really fucking me up.
Also, since there's a slightly minor detail I'm omitting for readability/clarity, I've gotta ask, is that a normal thing to do? I don't want it to look like I'm diverging from the source material by accident.
>>2320422
Of course you remain shit, you stay in a thread all about "it's my style" and don't actually practice.

>Turning bayonetta into a dude with tits
Just stop.
>>2325358
The only thing wrong with this that fucking is unberable is their fucking faces.
The face itself is fine too for the most part, but they have no cheeks and way too much chin. If you just changed that it would be perfect. The reason the chin appears to be a problem is because the lack of cheek. Literally just give them some cheeks dude. Plesae, I'm begging you, women need cheeks to be qt3.14's.
>>2325877
I mean I'm not telling you to turn them into dykes like the other dude just finish their faces.
>>2325880
Also this i guess
happy holidays everyone nwn~

>>2326048
Im sorry :(
Figured I'd post this here and try and get some critique. I've just recently started drawing again and I wanted to try my hand at some painting too. I feel like I'm lacking a lot. Any advice is appreciated!
>>2326037
that doesnt make any sense, there a clear human pattern for the blog asking.
>>2326098
its called 'forcing memes 101'
Still learning how to draw these damn hands
>>2326070
blog?
>>2326188
since it's christmas, have a shitty hand toot
You should be able to do 1,2,3 in your head if after you practice a few times.
Think of hands as a flat rectangular box-- which should help drawing them in perspective too.
It looks like you're using circles, which is why they come out looking bloated or swollen in the palm area.
Drawing the negative space BETWEEN the fingers actually should help and be easier.
>>2326208
Oh, thanks dude for that! It's looks somehow easy so yeah, gonna use this in next attempt.
Merry early Christmas, anons!
>>2326208
great way to learn symbol drawing, thanks so much :333

Drawing the drums.
>>2326237
Looks like a cat in a wig.
>>2325870
Would someone redline or critique this, please?
>>2326273
drawing using 3 dimensional forms
>>2325870
overall, your figure looks very stiff sitting in the chair. maybe consider drawing in your props first before putting your character in so they look like they're settled in better
the perspective tool i used is Carapace. kinda annoying hotkeys but it's alright
>>2326369
Thanks, this is really helpful, especially for the chair. I had a more looser figure but as I had to fit the constrains of adjusting to last-minute perspective... Gonna keep that in mind for the next time.
But I'm gonna have to keep some stiffness since the point is that the character is sitting in an electric chair against her will (sort of) but thank you!
finally have a functional tablet again. after three+ months tabletless it's taking longer than I had anticipated to readjust.
>>2326281
Well at least someone gave him feedack.

a recent work of mine
not really sure what i should do with this.
>>2326612
I would say work on the face a little. It looks like the everything from the nose down is pushed just a smidge too far back. Also, the butt is twisted in a position that it wouldn't be able to flex to realistically. Lookin' good though. Color is nice, I like you're linework, feels like proper ink.
Here's a WIP I have, just of a random sketch that evolved into a drawing. To be honest, I'm new here and really only frequent /co/, so I hope I'm posting this in the right thread.
>>2326609
are you reffing or using models or something> theres a deep contrast between understanding depending on elements.

Alright guys, roast me.
