If you wanna go pro, Stephen Silver https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvNO82-AgrJFYNkvdBWKSng

He talks more about mindsets then actual drawing techniques, and he can get a little rambly, but you can learn a ton from his perspective on art and the industry. He knows his shit.

Bet you still can't draw for shit.
>>
You only learn art by doing it. You're wasting your time sat in front of a screen watching other people do it.

Grab a pencil and paper and spend your time drawing shit instead. Figure it out for yourself.,

I mean, hey, why can't you do calculus. Just sit down without a text book and do it. Why are you sitting and watching this seminar you moron, you could be teaching yourself, from scratch.

Sorry. Really new to Photoshop. What kind of brush is used in the beginning of this video? I see a lot of artists using something very similar to kind of "build" characters and shapes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wm43DEDhrtw

That's kind of a bad example, because literally the best way to learn maths is to grab a good textbook, read it, and practice the problems.

Now, I'm not saying teachers are useless, but they mainly serve as an entity to tell you what you're doing wrong, and what you should do to improve.
>>
>>2319323
Default hard round with "wet edges" enabled. Pen pressure on size, maybe opacity too. Flow set to 53%.
>>
>>2319086

It's actually easier to do with math than art because you can objectively check your work on your own and patiently assess exactly what you did wrong. So shitty counter-argument if that's what you were trying to do.

Still, to address >>2318886 myself doing art and watching others do art isn't mutually exclusive, and if you seriously think there's nothing that can be learned from observation you're a certified retard. You can make a mistake 100 times and then watch someone do it right and figure out what you were doing wrong by observation. Watching someone whose art you like go from a blank canvas to a finished piece, being able to see every step of their process, is crazy valuable. They don't even need to explicitly being instructing you verbally, anyone who's not a retard can still analyse what they're doing regardless of what they're telling you, and it can sometimes be better than going just off of what they're telling you because inevitably you get people who are bad at verbalizing their process, or leave things out.

So your statement is about as retarded as "why read Loomis? You only learn art by doing it, fuck educating yourself on it just draw."
And if that's what you're saying, kill yourself.

All that said, though, obviously you need both. You won't become a good artist JUST by watching videos. Doesn't mean they're of no use or that your time will always be better spent drawing rather than watching / reading something that's instructional for you.

Yes, but no one would tell you to sit with a pencil and paper and reinvent calculus.

There's alot of cumulative knowledge in art and it's just as important as practice.
