If you are an extremely good artist, is there any advantage at all to working for a company/studio over just being a freelance artist?

What do you think?
>>
I think you should freelance porn and sick shit
>>
>>2316021
People outside the industry will actually think you have a job.

Who gives a flying fuck what idiots think

>is there any advantage at all to working for a company/studio
You serious?

>steady work
>don't have to constantly send emails, chase clients, read through contracts, wait to get paid, deal with shitty clients, marketing, periods of overworking etc
>lets you get visas to other countries
>surrounded by other artists
>collaborate with other people and learn from them
>9-5 schedule
>health benefits and insurance
>get to work on larger projects that don't have many freelancers
>gain understanding of entire design pipeline, not just one piece
>you can still do freelance in the evenings and weekends, but get to be more picky about what you accept since you aren't desperate for money
>upward mobility
>connections

Get a load of this wagekek.

Haha, I actually do freelance, not studio work. There's pros and cons to each.
>>
>>2316040
>9-5 schedule
>at any work except clerk/stores/factory work/slave labor/other work like this

This is exactly what anons believe.

Unless that is what you only want to be known for.

>steady work
Sure, but if you're great you'll get steady work as a freelancer, too.
>don't have to constantly send emails, chase clients, read through contracts, wait to get paid, deal with shitty clients, marketing, periods of overworking etc
overworking is very real even if you work in a studio, you serious?
>lets you get visas to other countries
almost irrelevant unless you've worked a certain field for over a decade, degrees get visas usually not work experience
>surrounded by other artists
and?
>collaborate with other people and learn from them
you can't learn on your own?
>9-5 schedule
not a good thing IMO
>health benefits and insurance
sure
>get to work on larger projects that don't have many freelancers
AKA work on a smaller piece while having less power on the creative process than you do as a solo freelancer
>gain understanding of entire design pipeline, not just one piece
what the fuck does this even mean?
>you can still do freelance in the evenings and weekends, but get to be more picky about what you accept since you aren't desperate for money
pickiness depends on skill, you seem to immediately assume freelancing means desperation, you're already biased
>upward mobility
what
>connections
can easily do that while being a freelancer, meeting people isn't restricted to studio work, plus there's this wonderful marvel called the internet

I suppose, but you need to be quite good before you get a stream of work approaching you, or you need to have spent years building a steady client base.

>overworking is very real even if you work in a studio, you serious?
True, but that was just one thing out of a list there.

>degrees get visas usually not work experience
Work experience can get you one in lieu of a degree. But I meant more like if you have a job offer in a country then it is easier to move there than if you just work freelance and want to move there.

>surrounded by other artists
>and?
And working freelance from home can be lonely. It's nice to be with other likeminded people.

>you can't learn on your own?
You can. But you can learn faster when you have other people around who can teach you things or bounce ideas off of or expose you to new ideas or resources.

>9-5 schedule
>not a good thing IMO
It's an opinion thing, sure. Some people prefer it.

>AKA work on a smaller piece while having less power
Not always the case. And some people like to work on big projects. Plus it looks good on resumes and can bring fame to artists if it is a hit which can really help your career.

>design pipeline
>what the fuck does this even mean?
Usually you work more with other people in other areas and get a better idea of how it is run. Depends on the studio, but you may for example paint 2d images for people to model, and then can discuss with them what is possible or not in 3d or what you should change or whatever. Or you understand just the general chain of command and how different departments interact. It can be useful to know that stuff instead of just sitting in your own bubble.

>pickiness depends on skill
To a degree, but even Mullins and Jaime take on "shitty" jobs.

>upward mobility
>what
Junior position to a lead position or director.

>connections
Connections in person are more valuable than online.

this guy gets it.
