Spent about 8 hours on this using water-soluable oil paints on 18x24
Been painting since september and this piece has already been critiqued by my instructor but I haven't had time to work on it with my other classes. The one thing he didn't really critique was my colors, so if you see anything that looks off there please let me know.

Proportions are really off, and it is poorly composed. Colours are a bit hard to tell from the photo, but it looks okay. You've used a fairly limited palette which means it's hard to screw it up too bad. It's a little heavy-handed I suppose though like how you make the halftone on the cheek super red and saturated.

Pretty nice. Some things feel a bit flat though. The shoulder on the right especially looks awkward and completely flat. But also your head, like it doesn't feel like your chin is a projecting out from your neck. This would be nice if you had some brighter white chalk than you used for some more value difference, or if you used a darker paper. The hair could probably be simplified more too. Here's a drawing by Klimt that shows both of these things well, and even though it is lit by ambient light the forms are still solid, and there are some wonderful simplifications and choices being made:

The white chalk there is used sparingly but it's very effective and complements the dark yellow paper well.

I definitely got a bit lazy on the shoulder. Thanks for the advice and image! I see what you mean with pushing a few highlights. The medium was colored pencil, not chalk, but im sure i could apply that to colored pencil.

Pretty nice anon. Colours are nice, reminds me of some colour choices made by Russian artists. The drawing in this is weak though, the perspective of things like your nose is pretty off. I think the neck and shirt are handled well. The face feels overworked and doesn't have the ease of handling your shirt does, and the edges in your face are not controlled well.

i ask this because your mouse+paint pics sometimes feature filled in colors amongst lines that are anti-aliased, which leads to the white artifacts around the line edges.
the windows xp version of mspaint is quite good if you're looking to avoid this, as it doesn't do anti-aliasing by default:

There's only some small nitpicks: ears look small, eyebrows and highlights there make you have a worried look on your face, the light outline on your shirt looks bad, where the texture shows can be a bit more controlled because as the other posted said in some areas it makes your face look dirty.
