>high school art class
>trying to draw a portrait freehand for in-class assignment
>teacher notices and says I'm drawing very symbolically
>"It's too cartoon-y, you have to draw realistic."
>Well, how do I do that?
>"I don't know, just, draw more realistic!"
>Failed assignment
>mfw
Darn I had a simillar experience except I was watching the teacher tell the class the same thing
>portraiture unit
>the lecture
>draw half assed potato of an oval
>half way draw more ovals
>draw this blob that's a nose
>line for the mouth
>fuck hair
>surprised when everyone in the classroom can't draw a face
>I get called a talented genius because I was the only one who had googled how to draw heads prior to the class
>the weren't even good
>the teacher wasn't any good
>the college wasn't any good
I hate my like
>studying bargue in highschool instead of social life
>learn loomis early
>lots of life drawing and imagination drawing
>become really good w/ pencil, ink, charcoal
>take Advanced drawing & painting in senior year of hs
>it's mostly painting and here I am being stupid with paint since I only have knowledge of drawing.
>turn in shitty paintings and amazing drawings
>get an A anyway

I wanna see a drawing next to a painting now to see if there actually was that much a difference
>pay out the ass for 6 month beginner drawing course
>literally just sit us down in front of model for hours every day
>no teaching, no lectures, nothing
>ask teacher for help with drawings
>teacher is some 23 year old shit
>sits at my easel
>draws for 5 minutes on my drawing without saying a word
>apparently this is supposed to help me somehow
Yeah, life drawing every day was really useful., but this felt like such a dumb way to learn. And before anyone herp-derps, this was before I had any idea about all the stuff on the internet. And it was before youtube even existed as a website.

I'm taking an art class at a community college to finish my bachelor's degree. It's drawing I because I wanted an easy class. My professor is a joke.
>ask to draw the asaro head that they keep in the closet
>doesn't know what an asaro head is
>asks me where I learned how to draw
>tell her Watts Atelier
>doesn't know what an atelier is
>learning charcoal
>be me, using Conte 1710b
>argues with me, saying I can't use it because it's a Conte Crayon and that I need to use a shitty General's brand charcoal pencil
>MFW I use it anyways
>Ask to see some of her drawings
>"oh I'm more of an installation artist, so I don't draw that often"
>does a live demo for the class
>can't draw an ellipse to save her life
>blames it on the coffee she had before class
I'm shitty by /ic/ standards but you should see the teacher in this class.
>rachet high school
>in "honors class"
>we get more math and science courses while peer classes get art
>senior year, we have to get an art class now
>art teacher quit
>school scrambles up the closest bull
>we have "cosmetology" for art cred
>mfw i spent the semester filing nails
>took fine arts in college
>it was pretty cool like fuck yes
>but minor useless subjects were more fucking demanding. i mean why the fuck do we need math and theology for
>ending up losing the balance
>had to attend required events instead of preparing plates shit
>losing time for personal project too much
>submitting mediocre shit just to pass the course due to fucking unbalanced sched
>some profs weren't hardcore critics
only if i knew that only way is to git gud by applying self-discipline in saitama style and getting over break-up + depression shit
The grid method is a horrible way of teaching.
My high school art teachers all made us use it.
It gives you the totally wrong mindset and teaches people to see 3d objects as flat abstract shapes. It teaches them to mechanically copy the abstract shapes and become human printers essentially, producing those 'photorealistic' artists that can't draw anything from imagination. It's really toxic for beginners.

Are you a girl? Will you be my wife?
Never really had that problem
all of my art teachers respected my "visions" and how I mixed things up a bit
always had high grades on arts but never had perfect grades mostly because I always took too much time on individual works and had to rush 1 or 2 works.

pls be in london
>Be in art uni
>Doing A1 study portrait of a model in pastel which we're supposed to expose at the end of the semester
>Teacher comes up to me
>"What's the message behind your piece?"
>Uhhh...it's a study
>"But every professional piece has a message anon"
>mfw
>Stopped doing assignments right then and there and just went to do my own thing and to socialize
I knew I fucked up the moment that happened, still didn't drop out because there are no courses/workshops in my country.
