We need a new Self Portrait thread
Just did this one in 25~30 min.
>ic self portrait thread
>half of them try to pose edgy and the other half does shitty cartoon portrait
>>2294234
I seriously did not tried to pose in any way. I was just looking at the mirror.
>>2294264
With a cigarette in your mouth.
Even if you're always smoking the fact you spent 20-25 minutes looking at yourself in a mirror with a cig sticking out of your lips is telling.
>>2294270
I'm a smoker. I was smoking while drawing. But i get your point.
>>2294270
post your work fegit
>>2294366
Cute, will draw
>>2294366
u a girl?
>>2294184
as a smoker, i'd be the last person to say smoking isn't cool, but if there's one thing that is so cringe inducing is when someone is PROUD that they smoke. This picture kindof comes off like that. Good pic otherwise
>>2294184
How am I supposed to do this? From memory, mirror or a photo?
>>2294526
Not OP, but I'm guessing anything would be fine as long as it's a drawing of yourself.
use a mirror or take a photo. I think mirror is better.
>>2294549
what if I use a mirror and take a photo of my reflections?
>>2294549
aight did this quickly from memory I'm not underage btw

its really bad
>>2297323
it looks like the features are melting off
learn construction and stop trying to compensate for your lack of skill with shitty lines
eh
>>2294808
For a first it's alright. You need loomis big-time and all that but the facial proportions are pretty decent and I like your style... Keep practising anon and git gud. Hurl yourself at some torrents of Loomis and Vilppu, and learn to construct and escape symbol drawing hell.
>>2297927
Nice dude

I love it. I would love to be as good as you.

Another.
>>2299688
nice. enlarging the eyes and lips and making the nose smaller in attempts to make yourself seem attractive
you dont look like that
>>2299694
insecure much?
>>2299694
That's all a self portrait is. An idealized picture of one's self.
>>2299700
Not necessarily idealized. I usually find that since my mood heavily affects my work, periods of severe depression usually produce the most interesting and dynamic pieces.
Pic related
>>2299694
It isn't that idealized.
I was trying out the Loomis construction method, so the head is rounder, and the eyes are a bit too close together... but my nose is pretty small.
>>2299725
>being this insecure.
This isn't /soc/ senpai. Take the criticism in stride.
>>2299725
Why are you posting yourself on a mongolian illustration forum
>>2299725
ayyy lmao
>>2299743
/soc/ wants its attention whore back
>>2299729
I figured showing a portrait beside a picture of the person it was based off of might get me a better critique. Technical errors/advice on constructing, etc.
Wishful thinking/bored stupidity.
>>2299744
It's a self-portrait thread you fucking mongoloid.
>>2299747
She thought it was a self photograph thread. Honest mistake.
>>2299750
How else do you prove a likeness? It's her ref. Quit projecting those obvious insecurities and move on.
>>2299754
An observation was made about the art style. Then it became /soc/ needlessly. It's a self portrait thread, not a rate me thread.
Good thing you galloped up to protect the maiden! I'm sick of seeing this shit derail threads. And if anyone is projecting it certainly isn't us.
>>2299741
Feedback + insult is better than no feedback.
The "tuned into channel zero" look was what I was focusing on, so I'll take the compliment.
Sorry for being scum sensei.
I'm shite but here's a wip anyway.
Also, it's not an /ic/ thread without stupid drama.
>/r9k/ cries that women are le ebil infestation
>/r9k/ comments on/obsesses over every womans looks even on completely unrelated boards
Aspies get out pls.
>>2299770
Shut up whore, you did this.
>You don't look like that
>I think it does, here's a photo
>omg why would you post a pic of your SELF in a SELF portrait thread, you whore, attention whore, why didn't you just let us question how well you captured your own likeness even though we don't know what you look like, you should've kept your mouth shut and let us project all over you about how you actually look like a 40 year old landwhale, REEEEEE
This is why this place is so fucking useless.
I wish there was a thread in which we could discuss self portraits... if only there was such a thread...
>>2299781
No no, I'm not looking for protection. I already took responsibility for my actions,
see
>>2299761
Stop beating a dead horse and get back to drawing.
This one isn't a self, but how's the shading?
>>2299781
>more projection
Fucking useless.
>>2299788
values are fine, composition needs work. You shouldn't crop the top of a persons head in a drawing.
It's hard to really tell the quality of the shading since the image is so low res, but thumbnail looks good. As long as you kept your pencil strokes tight, controlled, and consistent it's okay.
>>2299792
Thanks, I appreciate the advice. The top of the head isn't cropped, it's just covered by another drawing because I haven't finished the hair yet. I don't have a good strategy for dealing with hair so it's a slow process.
Any thoughts on whether or not I should do something with the background?
>>2299788
no human photocopier pls
ew
>>2299810
?
Its a damn good drawing.
>>2299857
>damn good
lol
drawing photographs is not difficult and barely indicative of skill.
compare
>>2299788
>>2299688
there is an obvious gap in quality which shows that the artist lacks knowledge of the underlying structures and forms required to create a similar image from imagination.
Children can make drawings such as these.
>>2299857
stop talking about your own art
>>2299860
I agree. But the point of reproducing the photograph was to practice values. Nothing wrong with that, it's good for muscle memory.
Also, it's inadequate to compare those two drawings for an idea of my skill level, considering one is a 30min sketch that was done simply to test an unfamiliar construction method, while the other represents hours of careful observation.
>>2299872
It's not art, it's a reproduction.
Post yours so we can talk about that instead.
I did this in 20 ish minutes, im happy with it.
>>2299690
Pls respond. I assume everyone draws from a mirror in this thread.
>>2300026
I draw from a webcam. You can also reord yourself for a long time and then use the video as reference, but a photo should be fine.
Also you could draw in paper if you really wish for a mirror.

I drew myself from a picture for anatomical study.

>>2294366
Let me do you a portrait, show you how its done.
>>2294816
Good, its obvious you did it quick but it still shoes skill.
10 - 15 mins Max,sort of rushed through it
>>2300820
Easterisland the early days?
>>2294954
congrats, you can trace a photo and create an image that's knee deep in uncanny valley. You understand nothing about art.
>>2299746
>I figured showing a portrait beside a picture of the person it was based off of might get me a better critique.
If it were from the same angle
>>2300972
learn to take a picture and resize holy y fuck you spic
What am I fucking up? Besides the obvious hairy lines and lazy ass hair.
>>2301704
Try making your drawings bigger. Your image is sideways. Looks like shit desu senpai.
>>2301704
What are you fucking up? Dude put your pencil next to that thing. Looks near microscopic
>female posts
>a thread that was fine a week ago is full of shrieking frogs
This is why we can't have nice things. Even on the fucking cooking board it derails threads.

>>2302387
I thin a lot of that is the poor photo quality
There are a lot of h8ers on this thread.. Why are "artists" so cancerous?
>>2302415
>Why are "artists" so cancerous?
It's 4chan. The people who are attracted to post here are typically not your average schmuck on the street. Sure, you get some nice and normal people here, but you get a lot of bitter outcasts and angry people as well.
>>2302369
>>2302387
slightly better image
>>2302438
Looks better but still it is muddy. I think it might be those rather pure red tones you have placed there, it makes the more neutral greys in your face look sickly and strange. I would try to balance your colour and value more carefully. Take a look at how this Serov handles things: http://uploads0.wikiart.org/images/valentin-serov/portrait-of-the-artist-i-s-ostroukhov-1902.jpg
>>2302438
I love it, for some reason it really reminds me of a young Jean Reno.
