From what I see he tags his stuff properly. It's just tumblr is a site where good artists aren't the ones who get all the notes. The ones who pander get the notes. Notice how most fanarts relating to popular stuff on his blog got loads of notes but his OC stuff barely gets any despite being just as good. That's why note and follower count is pretty meaningless on that site. Tumblr is a pretty shit site in general for promotion in comparison to Instagram or even Twitter.

I don't know if that's the whole story.
Fanart does get more notes, sure, because people look for that stuff. But even my non-fanart stuff often gets more than that guy and I'm not a fraction as skilled as he is so I wouldn't claim it's a quality thing by any stretch. I do generally tag the shit out of my stuff though, while he generally does 2 or 3 tags. Every extra tag you throw on is an added chance that somebody searching that tag sees your stuff. Artists on tumblr is a good one and I see he does that, but even then it'll get buried fast because it's a commonly used tag.
I do think that non fanart stuff almost never gets reblogged though (which makes sense, fandoms have fan blogs that look for this stuff), which will generally kneecap most things pretty fast.

I think it's a great little app for getting noticed, and a lot of people juggle both instagram and other profiles at the same time. I think he's fine. He's being direct and a bit rude, but it's not like he's flat out insulting people or doing anything too bad. It would be nice if he expanded on some of his reasoning a bit more though because that might be more helpful to some people. At least when people argue with his decisions he backs it up with a reason. So he does seem to have some set criteria he's using. It would be good if he explained that up front though.

when you say Hogarth are you still speaking about this ? I'm honored, but I've told you last time that I've never read or even looked at Hogarth stuff. heck I don't even enjoy his stuff esthetically speaking, just not my style.
it was just an edgy sketch that I happened to like and turn into this piece. I was going to just let it unfinished, but saw some pretty damn good Bouguereau stuff posted that I really enjoyed and made me want to paint it (someday).
