I've been working on a few pieces lately. This was a random request on /vg/ Smash general that I fulfilled, then realized feedback might be good to get here.
I am both struggling and liking the thicker lined approach, but I think I have set my lines still a little too thick in Manga Studio. I also feel like something is off in the facial region.
I'm not really super experienced and do this as a bit of a hobby, but I really like seeing improvement. Drawthreads have been good to me occasionally to provide redlines and feedback sometimes, but people here might have some advice in how I might improve my anatomy, shading, etc..

That's what I'm doing, the thing I'm mostly having trouble with is making the fringe make sense as a three-dimensional form that attaches to the top of the forehead as well as the ends of the hair in general when it separates into individual strands.

in terms of 3d it's only important that the headshape itself is correct.
or let me put it like this: don't focus on making the hair "3d", just make sure the hairtsyle itself makes sense. for example where you part the hair, where the hairline is, where the root is, direction and all that stuff.

All that matters is how you "copy" and use it. Everyone need to copy real life before drawing anything in the first place.
Just "copying" will never work because you need to understand how it works. If you do and manage to perfectly reproduce the style of your favorite artist, well, great for you. That's what the Dragon Ball Multiverse artist did toward Akira Toriyama.
Hirohiko Araki began by mainly copying Hokuto no Ken's artstyle before getting his own for example.

Even your 'progress' is done in a way that shows you're tracing, not actually constructing a form. Stiff lines. doing one small part of the body at a time. No sketches to show any form construction or thought, just magically appearing stiff and awkward freehand.
