also, related is from innocent by sakamoto shinichi, some anon posted about it earlier. it looks very good but sadly it isn't translated.

Not the manga, but the animation of Jojo's bizarre adventure had some interesting art in it.

You can't learn about comics from animation man, it's all about composition and line weight.IMO The hardest part is making a still image appear dynamic.

Vinland Saga has some artwork somewhat similar to Beserk. Not in terms of subject, but in terms of quality.

Man, I've read over 200 manga titles and I'll have to disagree. Have you seen Bernie Wrightson's stuff? Or Moebius' work? They're at least on par with the likes of Vagabond and Berserk's most detailed chapters.

Or perhaps Loisel's work. Or Blacksad, which is a fantastically illustrated comic as well. Open your mind, anon! And pick the best from both worlds.

a common mistake artists make when they start making comics is that they think that more detail = better comics, when there's a lot more things to consider. there's a reason hyper realistic comics are hard to find, while styled comics are the standard. when making comics, you have to value time over quality, else you won't be able to keep a regular schedule. you have to work with what you can do quickly, rather than working to the full extent of your abilities. the reason there's comics that are amazingly detailed in common panels is because that is the low end of the artists abilities. so of course, if you want to make detailed/realistic comics, you have to raise your abilities to an insanely high level so that you can make amazing panels in a timely manner. comic artists cannot afford to spend days on a single panel. even splash pages need to be done within a day or two else they'll get off schedule. you also have to consider that highly detailed panels determine the flow of the work and how fast people read the page. the more detail, the longer the reader spends looking at the panel, which makes time flow slowly on the page. you cannot have a high action scene where every panel is highly detailed, else it'll seem like a slow fight or even worse, boring. you need things to be more simplistic but with a lot of movement to keep things lively and make it seem like actions are happening quickly.
another thing is, don't use another artists work as a reference. you can use it as inspiration, but remember that an artists work is their own vision and their own warped perception.

Murphy is by far my favourite artist in comics right now. He's especially good for mechanical references. That being said, his shit can be hard to follow sometimes. Even he admits he went a little overboard with tones in Punk Rock Jesus, if I recall correctly.

If you want references for clearly defining the action/narrative check out Blacksad. Another obvious option would be Akira. It gets a bit masturbatory with the pacing at times, but overall really great. I'll probably get shit on for suggesting Dragon Ball/Z as well, but the way Toriyama utilizes movement has always been top notch. He arguably relies on speed/action lines too much, but the clarity is still there.

>>2063924
This is also accurate. If you plan to ink traditionally, use a god damn brush.

>>2065808
The colours are amazing, but out of context the actually pacing feels off. A little inconsistent as well. Man running in first and second panel, casual stroll look in the third panel gripping a heavy backpack, then he's way ahead in the eighth panel. I assume the boy is falling from the tree but I thought he was jumping out of the brush before going back to try and make sure.
