Is it worth it to bail college and focus on art?
I'm 21 years old and getting real tired of education, not to mention from a 3rd world country where engineers make $400 a month on average. I'd rather just focus on art and live on commissions for $100 a piece.
What do you guys think? yay or nay?
>>
>>2598320
it might be kind of a meme but you dont live all to often, better take some risks and have a chance to do what you love imo.
>>
Worth it in what way?
Financially it's a fucking retarded decision. Especially if you've already invested in a year or two of college.
If you're going to decide to be a professional craftsman in any craft you should already be good enough to make at least a bit of income at it, so that when you take the plunge you already have a bit of a setup. Going full NEET when you aren't even good at art is a seriously retarded decision in almost every way, hone your skill as an artist while making a living and then try to become a professional when you're good enough to know you can pull it off.

Or follow your dreams or something I guess, if that's what you want to hear.

Depending on his college it may be wise to quit.

If his tuition will rack up $50k/yr in debt he might want to get out now. I did and I'm grateful every day that I left.

I attended a Comp Sci degree for 3 months and dropped out. In that 3 month period I accumulated $15k in debt sitting at an 8.9% interest rate.

It took me 4 years to pay off debt I accumulated in 3 months.

College is great if you need it. But in America 2016 it's a racket. I would never recommend college for anything that you can teach yourself.

Nigga, I'm a 26 college drop out who was taking an engineering degree who's also living in the 3rd world. If I can do it all over again, I'd take what you're planning to do in a heartbeat. I'd only recommend it if you have the willpower to be very dedicated in this, of course. I've cut out things that are a huge time sink for me like video games.

I can already live off of lewd commissions alone. Gathering a following took a decent time however. It took 1 year for me to get 3k followers. I've seen others get way faster numbers and you might be better than me depending on how you market yourself and your skill level.

A good starting point is definitely porn. It has the lowest skill level for entry and forces you to hone your anatomy. Of course, it would be prudent to jump ship to something more lucrative once your skill level improves. A good portfolio is equivalent to a college degree in a decent field, remember that.

It makes me very happy that OP said "I'm from a 3rd World Country" and you immediately thought "America."
>>
If you're willing to work a shit job for the rest of your life in case things don't work out, go for it. Nobody knows what they're doing, so follow your dreams if they are important to you and you think you would regret taking the safe route.

There are some jobs that do require a degree like medicine, and I would think that for CS depending on what job you applied for you would still need a degree many times. College is useful if 1) you pick something marketable, probably STEM, stay away from meme degrees and 2) don't waste your money on school for something you could learn yourself, like if you just want to be a programmer. Although in countries where university is free you might as well just pursue whatever you want while also focusing on whatever will make you money, ideally those being the same thing.
>>
>>2598320
lol no
but if you have to ask retarded questions like this youre probably too stupid for stem anyways
>>
>>2599138
You've got problems, friend.
>>
>>2599252
You're probably one of those people who can't control his spending.
>>
>>2598320

absolutely yay. if an engineer lives on 400$ a month in your country imagine what your life will be like when you pull 4k a month doing art.
>>
>>2599262
no im not
i live in eastern europe
and i managed to work as a programmer study engineer and draw in my spare time
>>
>>2599272
>>programmer
>>draw
post your work
>>
>>2599272
Going by OP's given facts
>3rd world country where a stem degree nets you 400/mo
>OP has the ability to live off of 100
>if OP did what he's proposing, he gains more time to practice art
I don't see how you see that as retarded. It's perfectly logical

Ordinarily, no
>3rd world country
But given that, yes. Makes sense to focus on art. Does your country have a lot of tourists?
>>
>>2598395
OP is from a 3rd world country, so his college is probably free any way.
>>
>>2598320
If you'd lived in my country, I'd say no... but since you live in a "3rd world country where engineers make $400 a month on average", I'd say go for it, if you have the skill and passion! Do you have the skills, how ever? Do you have the passion? If you think you can pump out decent quality work at a decent rate, if should absolutely be doable.

>>2599294
I hope you are serious, I love your porn.
