I read a lot of Marvel/DC as a kid but I remember being especially impressed by Rork as a kid, even though I didn't get the plot because I was very young.
Also, Gustave Dore, because his work was on the books I learned to read with. I only learned way later it was done by the same dude.

My dad showed me this anime vhs tape when I was little. I can vaguely remember it all I know was that there was lots of upskit shots and nopan. I think it was also a fighting theme anime. Maybe it was a movie or hentai I don't know but I still can't what anime it was till this day.

I feel like I'm a speshul case in that I've been legit been drawing since I was a baby. I remember as a toddler having my 'art' hung above the door to my classroom in nursery school, being repeatedly selected for all the art projects through primary school, adopting the role of the 'mystery toilet artist" who decorated the inside of the girl's stalls in the Block C bathrooms with myriads of sketches and being that one weird 'art kid'.
Then I'm not really sure what happened. I fell into a depression that lasted 6 years and I'm only now picking the pencil back up. I still don't know how to use a tablet, I'm so far behind in everything. I can't help but think, 6 years, I could have been great, but now I'm just garbage.

Scratch that, I finally dug up the Comic Party CG from long that made me pick up a pencil for real.
I watched the behind the scenes movies for companies like blizzard and other animation studios, and that pursuit of creating stories and worlds was too enticing to just say "That's nice." I really wanted to make artwork after that. I know its not really the question you asked, so I'll just say WoW :)

Luckily I've grown away from anime but i struggle a lot with facial proportions because of it
Vocaloid and curiosity.
I wanted to do a whole vocaloid song on my own, not only learn what was necessary to compose the instrumentals, I wanted to learn drawing to make the illustration for the video and learn Japanese for the lyrics. Of all these 3, composing music was and still is the hardest to me (After 5 years of learning Japanese, 3.5 of drawing and 2 of composing music I only have like 4 proper finished songs )
Fortunately drawing really ...really got into me, I've been drawing every day since I started back in 2012/2013. Now I want to change careers and become an illustrator some day.

The original picture was something like a mouse and a cat supposed to battle or some shit but it made me realise how many things stuck inside my head I could put on paper. Also thinking about it One Piece may have been in the back of my mind all that time not because of the show but the drawing style is just so epic. Couldn't even choose an image because they are all fucking epic all that twisted perspective and just design and detail it's just too much!

The sailor moon anime got me too. There's one episode that stuck out to me a lot as a kid because it had a couple scenes with really fantastic animation but I can't remember which one it was. I just know it had Tuxedo Mask riding a motorcycle on a highway and it looked really cool, and then something similar was done again during the car sex scenes in Utena.
I was one of those dweebs that got into art because of Dragonball/Z.
I would pause VHS tapes of the show to draw/copy the scenes. I also recall doing the same with Sailor Moon tapes with my sisters.
<this manga is what made me want to draw. looking back on it now the art is terrible (on the people anyways) but it was the art and the story that made me want to make sequential art.
This fucking movie. I saw it when I was 12 and I loved the animated segments cause they were edgy and I was 12. They're still pretty good.

My fucking fourth grade art teacher. At the time I didn't really care all that much for art, but I knew I still had to do the work so I put in the effort. So one day she has us try to mimic 'a starry night' by Van Gogh in crayon (side note, she thought it was by Picasso, retard). So I tried to mimic it but I couldn't the spacing next to the stars right and eventually I told her "I can't do this, can you teach me how?". She decides teaching me is just doing it herself and draws out the pattern, turns to me and says "like that". So she hands me back my crayon and says "like that". I have no idea what the fuck she just did so I just stare at her until she angrily says "NOW". I try to fake it the best I can but she suddenly starts to freak out, says I'm being a disrespectful little troll, and actually sends me to the principals office over it. I even got a note home to my parents from her later saying that I had tried to disrupt her; wouldn't follow directions, and was being internationally disobedient to her 'lesson'. I decided then that I would learn to draw for myself, if nothing more than to rub her awful nose it. I may not be good and anatomy may scream out for God to kill it, but at least I don't pretend I know all there is about art.

When I was a kid I loved drawing and I loved animals, horses in particular, and so I copied a whole lot of drawings of Rien Poortvliet's book on horses that we had at home. I still admire Poortvliet. The man was a brilliant artist. Pic related. When I got older I was swept away by Ocarina of Time and that snowballed in trying to draw like the game's official art and then animu. Thank god I wisened up after a few years of that and got back to drawing non-animu shit.

It was always something about Squaresoft circa 1997 to 2001.
The pre-rendered or hand painted backgrounds in certain games captured my attention and low-poly characters always looked cool to me. Now I study and and 3D and give a lot of inspiration credit to what they put out back then.
The first Akira book is as far back as i can think of. Then i got those shit chris heart anime drawing books. Then i stopped all together, picked it up and want to really learn last fall. Dropped it again for vidya due to lack of willpower. Then i watched akira for the first time and its back and im chasing those cyberpunk dreams.

My mom was a painter, so I wanted to art from a very young age. Wanted to be a comic artist first, inspired mostly by Asterix & Obelix, Elfquest, and others. Later got into fantasy through Warcraft 2 and Warhammer. Only got serious about it when I first got into anime through Dragonball Z, Ranma 1/2, and Akira.. as I was finally at an age to really understand what I was doing.

I've been drawing ever since I was a kid. People always complimented my art and I got several art rewards, so these things motivated me to keep at it. I also loved reading manga since I was young so I imitated other artists' styles and eventually developed my own. Honestly though, I wish I didn't get into manga when I was a kid. I could've spent my childhood drawing from life and actually develop my art skills to a high level.
Sailor Moon sort of, but I started taking it more seriously/drawing significantly more when I found portraits of VK artists I wanted to draw. They looked cool.

Tbh I was always drawing/sculpting all the time as a kid.
Manga got me into art as a kid, It was probably stuff like Bleach.
It wasn't about the whole deformed anime style, but I loved the look of things done in sharp black ink, clean white and the screen tones they used.
The manga for Naruto used to blow my mind as a kid. (Honestly, it still does) It was probably my biggest inspiration when it came to drawing.

I liked the cartoon (a lot, is my favorite in fact). but the funposting around it was what made me want to draw. More specifically, the "fun happenings" stickies like the apertures of seasons and alike, (the equivalent of celebrating brexit with /pol/ or E3 with /v_/) and the anon in jail generals (I laugh my ass off with those stories. My favorite was this:
"-Oh he was so hot... one hand (or hoof whatever) should be enough
Then, she proceeded to rub her belly" and stuff like that.
After that I got in here and started to learn traditional art (more, got that appreciation specifically thanks to "pen and ink by frank lohan").
Now I love pen rendering and love art independently of waifuism and stuff like that.
