Is it possible to make digital art look traditional?
>>2524859
there's this mullins painting of a wooden shack sitting in some dense forest. it looks unbelievably traditional. i don't have it anymore but even the psd in floating around on the internet somewhere.
>>2524859
Yes. Digital art can't simulate the complexity of brush strokes yet, though.
>>2524859
Usually it's pretty easy to distinguish traditional from digital.
Made this as a visual example for a DM. It is supposed to be a magic circle and eventually a magical symbol. I am wondering what I could do to give it a more magic type of feel and or could you give it a try? Anything would be appreciated, Thanks!
Put it all in Black, copy it on a old piece of paper, put some ink spot's around it.
Look up pictures of the Necronomicon.

I didn't think of that!

OK /IC/ im 18 years old and have found myself with a lot of free-time and no real skills. I've wanted something to work on that's not just vidya and Ive been getting really into drawing..But would you guys say I'm a bit too old to start getting into art seriously and maybe looking into somehow making this a career as a sort of dream/goal? I've been drawing on and off since I was little but Ive never taken it too seriously until now. I'm not a total beginner I guess and I'm out of the symbol stage so any advice for me or something?
you can pursue it as a hobby, but it really depends on how good you are if you want to make it a career. post stuff online; a lot of people will berate you, but in the same crowd there will be people that will criticize and give advice
>>2527646
Well I can put allot of time into it anon like 4-6 hours a day.. also are there any artists that start near my age and get big? (my goal isn't to become big or anything but it would help my confidence a bit)
>I'm not a total beginner I guess and I'm out of the symbol stage
let's see it, then
Ok guys, who and where do you follow? What intresting sites you got? Some cool site you'd like to share?

Pretty much what it says in the subject. I have heard that the spray looks like shit, but on the other hand, I have also heard that not applying it will fuck up the charcoal drawings in that they are delicate to smudging especially when storing them in between other papers.
>>2527451
Fixative on charcoal isn't as bad as other mediums like pastel. But you should try it out for yourself rather just asking the internet. If you find that it flattens your drawing too much you can always go over it again. And this sort of goes without saying but you should work on proper archival paper if you want to use fixative, on newsprint it won't really do shit to preserve your work.
>>2527491
Ah ok. I'm sure it works well on charcoal drawings, I was more wondering whether it is bad if you don't apply it, If it will actually damage the drawing when storing it. For example, I would be worried about smudging and other damage when storing a bunch of drawings in a stack.
I know trying it myself and experimenting is the best option, I was just looking for input from people who have used it before.
>>2527491
Oh and another thing, proper archival paper is just acid free paper, right? I'd assume most sketchbooks come with this kind, so I think I am good.
What is this effect and how do I achieve it? I see it a lot with Korean weeb artists.

How do you "get gud" at gesture/sketching?
Competent artists can convey what something is, how something should look relatively quick and easily (pic related) It isnt perfect, but it conveys an image, things are fairly symmetrical and proportioned well enough.
But my sketches are never that, I've been drawing seriously for maybe 4 years now, maybe more, and i struggle with just quickly conveying a scene or character in the way i envisioned it.
What needs to be practiced in order to effectively describe something in a sketch? What should be...

Not baiting, but post your work.
The issue with asking these questions is that the answer is different based on what the individual has issues with.

Reading through How to Draw by Scott Robertson (using Traditional methods).
In one exercise here, he brings up a Perspective Grid. Do you actually create one? If so, how? He doesn't mentioned it before hand.
ideally you should be able to do it in your head, but if not you have to set up a horizon line with vanishing points. and then later erase it or digitally you can do it on another layer
>>2521377
oh or you can do it all on the grid and then use tracing paper or something like that as well
>>a Perspective Grid. Do you actually create one? If so, how?
Tools my friend. There are some wonderful perspective grid creators out there.
Most are stand-alone, and simply output a reference image for you to overlay in your work. Some can be overlaid on top of your desktop too.
Here's a list of the ones I personally know of:
- PerspectiveEditor, by KNDY (Japanese, free, outputs to image, has a really intuitive/easy-to-use UI):

I personally really like this one, so I translated...

Have you created a Masterpiece yet, /ic/? Or a piece of work you can look back and be undoubtedly proud of? Mind posting it?

You've been here for how many years now? and you still havent made any improvement worth talking about? I bet your loli reaction/avatar folder is 3x larger than the folders that have your actual work
really just a bunch of squiggles lmao. took three-ish days last year.
i'd do the clouds differently if i redid it.
Hello /ic/, is there some kind of magic happening at art schools?
I have a chance to go to California for a year to study drawing, the thing is I'm a poorfag and feel responsible for my family's well-being.
Is there something that I'm missing, that I can't learn on my own/from the internet?
Thanks.
You're poor and feel responsible for your family's well-being? Then why would you ever want to be an artist or have that as a profession if you care about your family and need an actual job to support them.
>>2526913
I'm 18, by family I meant my parents. I don't have many needs, I just don't feel right when I see them worried or arguing. I would hate to make them invest in me if it's not necessary.
Art schools are good for networking and acquiring skillsets. You can acquire the skills you need by devoting yourself to your art at home. There's plenty of faces in the industry that don't have a school paper to their name. If you're really into art, you really won't need art school as there are much cheaper ways to git gud at home. IDK what the state of art schools in the US is, but across the pond a paper means quite little when compared to a beefy portfolio.
how does censorship affect art?
as it does with everything else. it cripples it.
>>2525875
do you think that it can also help it?

No.
Do any of you have any experience with this site? Looks like it could be a great tool for learning.

It's the same basic practices as Peter Han's stuff. It's a place to start as any other.

I think that some stupid asshole didn't read the sticky nor was in /beg/inner thread because then he would know that it is one of the most often recommended resources here.
OP, stop being so new and such retarded faggot and actually lurk a bit before smearing your idiotic shit all over the board.
Here, I'll be super helpful, have even updated sticky one:

Intro lessons look like exercises from an actual art school so I guess it's already better then most meme sites out there.
