I have a struggle /ic/. Was wondering if anyone could relate or help...
I have crippling anxiety and can't function without prescription medication. It's neccissary for me to hold a job.
But it's really held me back when it comes to art. Before I took the medicine I was full of ideas and always felt creative. Nowadays I struggle for a long time to even come up with a pose I want to draw. If I don't have a reference, I'm sunk, cause I'm left up to my imagination which feels completely non existent.
>>2552138
Watch movies, read books, go outside, listen to music, get a hobby, look at a lot of art and photography. Keep a small notepad with you at all time to quickly jot down an idea or thumbnail if you are ever struck with a brief moment of inspiration before it disappears.
>>2552138
Odd I have anxiety that at times borders on agoraphbia, particularly when I'm in situations where I'm stuck somewhere I can't leave, like work meetings, weddings, lectures, going to the dentist, etc. I deal with it as best I can but even the smallest things can be a huge struggle. Sketching during these things to the extent I can helps take my mind of it and even when I'm out on my own using the right side of my brain I'm able to forget all of those thoughts and the circular anxious thinking...

How the fuck do you get that bad? Did your parents abuse you? Were you abandoned? Problems like that usually arise in childhood.
Also I'm not surprised that psychiatric drugs are inhibiting your normal brain function.
Hey. First time tablet buyer here needs some advice.
So im going to buy tablet next week and i plan to buy Intous medium art. I have 24inch 1920x1080 monitor. Is tablet's size going to be enough? I also read some article and it tells that intous pro small is better for screen like i have. Both same price about 200€. Im not going to spend any more than 200€ Tell me what you think.
Well, i can tell you one thing, dont get a Bamboo Capture, Splash, ect, allot of support has now been discontinued. Intuos is my nest stop, not sure what model but i'm looking around and in the market for a new one. Anyone would like others suggestions too
>>2548864
I got the same tablet as a first time buyer. I have no frame of reference but it works great - driver issues here and there but easy to fix by restarting your computer.
>>2548864
Go medium.
Small is small for your monitor.
Hi /ic/ I spilled water on my laptop while I was sleeping and now it doesn't work.
Do you think people will care if I draw them while they go about? Just gesture drawings. Do any of you go downtown to draw people?
>>2548720
Is that your work?
I've done it a few times, people didn't seem to care. If you can find a window seat in a cafe or library or something that is a good spot.
>>2548730
Yes it is, drawn on my phone.
Thanks.
>>2548720
it's fine, just don't be creepy about it. don't make it obvious that you're drawing them, make it look as if you're looking past them and not staring. i'd imagine the only reactions you'll get will be positive
Is there something wrong with cartoons and anime?
direct me to where you believe a piece of evidence resides in support of this claim
i like anime
>>2549549
personally, I think the grand majority of anime is shit
mostly for writing reasons
>that being said
Samurai Champloo and Mushishi are my two favorite works. And they aren't exactly visually striking works of the decade.
After seeing this George Clooney game I'm curious if /ic/ is down for more fun. Have you ever seen those threads on other boards where you pause at a certain time in a movie, post the screencap, and others guess what it is?
Let's do it on hard mode. Pause at 33:33 on a movie of your choice, and draw the fucker. Others guess. Let's say you can have a 10 second grace in either direction if you pause at a point that's completely useless.

you start

I'd been planning to but as I got started I realized I'm too damn drunk to do anything recognizable.
If nobody bites I'll post something tomorrow to get the ball rolling, though it probably won't be that great.
Ill start
What are the benefits of a light box? Are they meant exclusive for tracing? The lighting in my room kinda sucks so I have been considering buying one, but not sure where to start as far as specs go. Can anyone recommend a decent, cheap-ish one? Recommendations for a scanner would also be nice. Thank you.
They're used for cleaning up rough sketches and in-betweening animation. Vital of you're doing traditional animation, but not really important for anything else.
>>2552099
What use are they in in-betweening
>>2552078
They don't weigh as much as a heavy box
im a finally a wagecuck and im getting my first paycheck in 2 weeks. I already have bill gates networth in art tutorials, but what tools should i buy? i want to get into digital art.
>>2551826
>what tools should i buy? i want to get into digital art
Buy some paper and pencils. In 6 months to a year buy an intuos.
>>2551826
A tablet, obviously. Probably one on the cheaper end (unless you have enough to get somethung better, I got a wacom intuos medium for 150$), and if you don't have a laptop, then a laptop or a 2-in-1 would be good. Honestly unless you've been doing traditional art for a while, I don't recommend skipping over the pencil and paper stage because you'll be more inclined to waste your time on polishing and ctrl+z
>>2551836
This.
And I would add: shitty paper so that you're not afraid to waste it. For pen/pencils, not something expensive but something comfortable, with B or 2B leads. Get an eraser pen too, that's really great.

I, for one, welcome the critiques being given by artists far more accomplished and experienced than myself.
I used to have a large passion for doing art and making a career out of it. I thought I could do something in the freelance world as long as I was smart about it.
But you know what? It's all bullshit. At the end of the day, for a career, you don't decide what you draw. You may very well draw only banal things. You're a bitch to most people. Writers are superior to you because they can weave in for better stories than you can depict in a single painting.
I've honestly come to believe that drawing and painting are the lowest form of art and...

Cool blog.
>>2551268
you are wrong anon. i made 750$ in a single day recently doing around 6 illustrations that literally looked like this. not my dream gig, but insane $/hour ratio.
you think writers are superior? go try to become a professional writer then, see how that goes lol.
also saging because your thread sucks balls.
>>2551268
>I thought I could do something in the freelance world as long as I was smart about it.
>At the end of the day, for a career, you don't decide what you draw.
Are you fucking retarded? Obviously as a freelancer you draw what others tell you to draw and all you decide is whether or not you take the job. That's the very nature of being a commercial artist taking commissions.
I hope this isnt too pretentious,
>made a BeHance today
>loaded up a project of 7 illustrations
they follow a theme and are in my most comfortable style
to get to the point, I'm hoping you guys can give me some criticisms and help develop this style, weed out some more obvious flaws a novice like me cant really grasp.

I'll self bump this once.

Nice stuff but currently too tired for crit sorry
Im using the default chalk brush in photoshop and every time i try to change one of the settings (like minimum opacity or opacity control), it resets immediately after i make one stroke.
Does anyone know what the problem is? This is very frustrating
>>2551869
You can click in the lock next to text, but it will change all your brushes, or learn how to use tool presets.
>>2551878
still resets if i click the lock :/
whats the difference with tool presets?
>>2551887
tool presets saves all the changes in the brush settings, in another different menu and have the advantage to name it whatever you want. At least it worked for me because it remains the same no matter I swap the brushes.
Do any of you go into sleep debt for working on your art whilst having typical obligations (work, school, etc.)?
Has it pushed you further at all? Caused problems?
Yes. Yes. Yes.
No. Often I get upset and discouraged at my work, switch to something different, and approach it tomorrow to find my brain has managed to work it out during the night.
Fatigue is shooting yourself in the foot halfway thru a marathon. Pointless.
Not really. Usually get 6-8 hours. Could be worse.
Battle stations thread yours or theirs post em. You could also explain your set up.
>>2550778
Why do anime artists always have fucking bird wings in their pencil holders? Is it to brush away eraser shavings? Why can't they just blow them off the page or wipe with their hand? I've never seen one in a store before.
>>2550779
You have to hunt down your spirit hawk and get one from them.
