I've decided to bite the bullet and finally come to /ic/ after five years of doing commissions after one of my clients wasn't pleased with a result.
I'm a pretty good artist in my opinion but maybe there are a few minute details to my work that I could focus on adjusting. I was hoping /ic/ could give me some pointers that I didn't already hear in art school. What do you guys think?
>>2272974
First of all, it's customary to post in the Draw Thread or Beginner Thread for critiques rather than creating your own thread.
Secondly this is awful on every level, I don't even know where to start. Fuck... Just...post in the beginner thread and maybe someone there can give you a starting point.
>>2272974
You've been to art school, been taking commissions for five years, and you produced that and think it's pretty good?
What do I think? Its never too late to begin a new career
>>2272974
>one of my clients wasn't pleased with a result.
what happened? I thought they probably had viewed your work before and is going to expect something along the lines of that.
I'm not blind, I know when something looks stylized or realistic, but when does my art start going into that stylized area? Is it thick outlines? Odd proportions? Shading? I want my stuff to look real, but I like giving my art some odd theme or feature that makes it stand out.
Pic is more of sketches that stuff I take time with, but still gives an idea of what I mean. They are more stylized, but I want to try and move to more realistic stuff.
How old are you?
>>2272825
you can only destroy what you already know

I'm applying to colleges and I'll need to have my full portfolio for the ones that accept me, and I want to have stuff that is only stylized in it.
Anyone here get urges to draw certain things but don't to avoid embarrassment?
For example, I really want to draw neopets like pic related. I get mad nostalgia. But I'm a guy and that would come across as incredibly gay. Literally only faghag girls draw neopets. So, I just don't draw them.
Other things are I guess furries, certain fandoms like mlp, steven universe, etc.
I'm not making progress in my art because I feel like drawing but the topic is degenerate and I don't want people to know. Anyone else got these feels?
>>2272752
>set up new online personality that never interacts with "normal" personality
>do whatever the fuck you want
no, just draw what you want and keep it to yourself if you dont want people to see it. Even artists like Osamu Tezuka did weird stuff and kept it hidden away.
>>2272773
>>2272774
I just realized that I find a lot of stuff that looks kind of "fun" degenerate. Like OCs, AUs, etc.
It's also almost at the point where I'm scarcely uploading anything because I'm drawing stuff I don't want other people to see.
I won't lie, being an artist kind of embarrasses me. But I can't help liking what I like.
This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make stylized work in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

I think there needs to be a dedicated anime girls general so you can stop shitting.
Beginner Thread
Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises. Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up.
Do not forget to resize and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.

The idea of gesture drawing just doesn't make sense to me. I have a gesture in my mind. What am I supposed to be practicing?
>>2272666
definetely check this satan - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOtVUHgJqQk
and optionally torrent the other vilppu videos
Right now I'm:
>doing gestures
>doing the Vilppus manual
>trying to understand perspective a bit
When should I jump into shading, realistic life drawings and so on?
Any pointers as to how long should I spend drawing gestures before going to try and draw a bit realistically?
Does anyone know what kind of process Chase Stone uses to create his images? I know there are two tutorials by him out there but they're pretty old and I'm sure he's much more dependent on references nowadays.
I'd like to know Brad Rigney's updated process as well. Looking at their stuff makes me want to get into photobashing.
Basically everything's photobashed or uses photo reference, then applies a lot of filters to get the consistency.

>Does anyone know what kind of process Chase Stone uses to create his images?
No, and I wouldn't want to know because imo they look terrible.
Like I needed any more proof that this industry and digital art in general are absolutely fucked. It's just too easy.
'Making it' equals a 25k salary. All of us who pursue this seriously signed up for a life of bitterness, stress and poverty.
Tough luck. All I feel is anger towards the people that encouraged me and talked bullshit about how great their lifes are and how it all paid off... it was nothing but vanity. The vain need to feel successful infront of someone else, rather than tell them the truth about the horrible path they are heading down.

Being an artist is more about being a salesman and knowing marketing and 40% art. When you fully understand this let me know so I can tell you politely to stop spreading your beliefs that you can't make money. Only losers who can't make a sale have this mindset.
>>2272408
You're right in that if you want to make money as an artist you need to be a salesman. But i'm not a salesman nor do i enjoy being a salesman. If i would i wouldn't do art.
Do you guys appreciate good shoe design (or anything else) like good art.
post best shoe.

foot fetish much?
That's an unusual, interesting thread btw
Can you post more designs that you like?
>>2272375
Haha, nah not a foot fetish, i just think sneaker design is really interesting. Particularly with character building and stuff its a cool way of chucking in an extra little piece of design.

OP this is slightly fun to read, but why are you not focusing on drawing?
there's this one girl with giant tits and a very low neckline. she was sitting opposite of me and started to get on the floor and draw on her knees. she was 'working' very energetic, so her breasts started swinging around and one escaped her bra. needless to say that this was very distracting and I got angry at myself.
so from this day on I've added another wank to my day just before a figure drawing session. which is...

Post your current drawing here and give constructive critique to others!
Please make sure your posted image is clear, downsized to around 1000 pixels wide, rotated to the correct orientation, and that any unused space is cropped.
If you want critique on a drawing from the previous thread, you can delete it there and repost in this one.

This is more like what would happen correct`? It's still incredibly fucked up. No idea how to draw hands fml

That's gorgeous anon. Lots of energy left from not overworking things. Reflection is maybe a little too dirty.
There are plenty of boorus for weeb shit and anime
But why hasn't any one made a booru with traditional and realistic paintings yet
Drawings and paintings that are more tasteful that all that anime garbage

Nobody in the current times has reached that level of draftsmanship or has even come close to achieving it despite the medium and all the tools we have on our disposal with digital.

And piss off if you're not offering any advice.
So, my mom is really not wanting me going as an artist. I have made a lot of progress over the years. I've done my anatomy studies(still), but now been starting draw many other things besides the figure. Animals, clothing studies, etc. Any ways to deal with this /ic or should i just ignore and continue on for what I want to do. Freelance illustration~
>>2271028
How old are you?
my mom is the same. my dad believes in me 200% but my mom tells me 'yeah sure thing sweety but you'll have to get a real job sometime, and the longer you wait the harder it's going to be'.
your parents know jack shit about commercial art, might be a good idea to keep that in mind.
They are mainly motivated by concern for your wellbeing, anon.
Their objections tend to fall away once you start earning a (steady) paycheck.

23. She stills sees it as a hobby despite me drawing over 5 hours every day. I haven't touched digital in months to solidify my foundations too.
