Looking for some input before i flesh this out.
Illustrations coupled with text mimicking The Inferno.
Dante - David Alighieri
Virgil - Andrew Loomis
Three Beasts - TomPreston, SakimiChan & Bleedman
Here is how I have the Circles mapped out:
LIMBO - Concept Artists (Fu Zang or w/e)
LUST - Hentai Artists (mogudan etc)
GLUTTONY - ???
GREED- (Akira toriyama)
WRATH- Guro Artists
HERESY- (Ben Garrison)
VIOLENCE- ???
FRAUD - ???
TREACHERY - Walt Disney
and throw natazilla in there somewhere
Gluttony would be fat fetish art
Also why is Sakimichan one if the 3 beasts? Is it because of popularity or she's considered bad? I think her subjects suck but her painting is pretty good in my opinion.

That's fine. I just put her there, It isn't really helpful if you don't suggest an alternative (which I am open to granted its a good suggestion)
>Bleedman
Wow that's a name I haven't heard in a while. I just looked at his recent work and it looks like his art hasn't changed from 10 years ago.
What do you think of Tim's Vermeer, /ic/?
This guy with absolutely no painting skill replicated it with the instruments Vermeer could get his hands on, on top of that Vermeer doesn't do under paintings or sketches beforehand, he just laid the paint on, on top of even that all the lens issues that Vermeer would have painted are there in his paintings, but Tim caught on to it.
Do you think this blurs the line between artist and inventor/whatever?
Picture related.
There's also a documentary on it which I highly recommend.
Pic related as well, he just used a mirror and a lens he made which is a replica of lenses at that current time.
Can someone post that image of "Oh, this thread again"

I got pretty annoyed at some some of the stuff Hockney and Penn were saying since it was obvious they didn't really know what they were talking about and doing a lot of speculation and presenting it as fact.
It's an interesting idea though, but if Vermeer did use it then I don't think much changes. It's not like he was just a mechanical machine, there is a lot of artistry in his work still and I think the side-by-side comparison makes that painfully obvious in terms of the massive gap of skill.
thoughts?

I recently read that most concept artists these days spend hours a day shitting out vast quantities of art for extremely minor components of movies and tv shows for extremely low pay and difficult hours
how true is this statement?
Watch Maciej Kuciara's Art Cafe on Youtube. He and guests talk a lot about the concept art industry there, so you might be interested.

wrong. most don't get any work.
those that do, yes, applies.
it's either inhouse or something else for me (traditional illustration for whoever the fuck hires me).
something to chew on: look at the extent with which software has replaced actual skill in this field. look at the absolutely utterly retarded amount of tools, software packages and plugins concept artists nowadays use. there's no need to know ANYTHING other than software. the worfklow looks something like this:

Thats so fucking disgusting i blame the consumer and the clients who demand PHOTO realism because for some reason looks like a photo = good i really hope this stupid shit will die eventually
Hello d/ic/kheads.
Is any one here a concept artist? How can I make these radical 20 something hybrid warrior lizards cooler
>>2280029
Give them each a differently colored Zorro mask.
>>2280051
NO MASKS
>>2280051
K give each one a signature weapon.
How about a mole hybrid that's their mentor and father figure.
Are they really necessary ?
What should you use them for ? Designs ? Illustration ? Characters ? Environments ?
Is this seriously a "Are thumbnails useful thread?"
Why don't you do some and find out. Do you need to ask mommy if it's worth it to wipe after shitting too?
>>2279853
So you'd say that Thumbnails are as useful for Character Design just like they'd be for Environment Illustration ?
> I believe thumbnails are useless as for character design; I don't see the use for it as thumbnail mainly helps with composition..
>>2279853
senpai desu lol
So I guess it's true isn't it? There's really no secret schedule you can utilize huh? Hell, even teachers can't do much except point out flaws and have you focus on them. You really do just have to draw a lot.... I mean, it's slightly more specific than that but not by much.
You have to learn and apply what you've learned and repeat applying so you've got it down. When you attempt to draw thing, you need to look for the mistakes in that thing and focus on improving it.
That's all there really is to it? I guess me and plenty...

Obviously there's a lot more to it than just repetition and hours. How many people have you seen "grinding" for hours each day for years and they still aren't producing anything noteworthy? Even Harold Speed talks about those guys so it's nothing new.
That being said, there aren't any shortcuts still and a large number of hours are required, they just aren't the sole thing responsible for mastery.
Art is understanding my man
>>2279678
Well obviously, you have to get out of your comfort zone and try different subjects and angles and go from figures to heads to enviros but honestly I think most of us already know what we need to do. I have yet to actually get an answer for specific schedules that are effective, even from a mentor I paid $50 a month to help me. All he could recommend was general advice and it mainly boiled down to "well if you wanna do X, you gotta learn about X and then draw a lot of X". Matt Kohr, Proko, Vilppu, Loomis......

what's the point of 2D animation when 3D can look even better?
>>2279454
What's the point of making a bait threat when you can fool nobody?
>>2279454
Is this bait? 2D and 3D each have their strengths and weaknesses, but neither is "better" than the other since they excel at different things and a lot of it in the end is subjective.
>>2279454
Because 3D needs a much bigger budget to look good. The few times you see tv anime use 3D animation, it ends up looking like cheap cutscenes out of a PS3 anime game. Which is why only big companies like Paramount, Sony, Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks have ever created any worthwhile 3D animations.
Collection of my work from about a year ago. Thinking about starting again.

What kind of response are you really expecting here, because it won't be positive.

Rate my painting. Used acrylic paint, tried to paint with a kind of knife, failed miserably. This is the first one I did entirely out of my mind and my 3rd painting ever. Any mature criticism is welcome.
Boring
sticky
>>2278631
it's acrylic so it dries pretty quicky. Oil stays pretty sticky for a while before it dries especially if using alkyds or other mediums.
I can never draw the other eye...
>>2278459
Read sticky, gtfo.
>>2278465
Sticky is homo. I would have suggested something that was actually useful.
>>2278490
why do you fully develop each individual feature rather than drafting them all first?
This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make stylized work in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

for the people that do art commissioning, what are the most annoying things to you? do you get annoyed the most by vagueness, someone who can't make up their mind, or someone who is really picky and keeps asking for readjustments?
