Graydon Parrish
Have you guys and girls heard about him? His work is sublime (pic related).
He draws like an angel.
No, nobody on here has heard of him, because he's just another one of those boring atelier drones who's entire career consists of drawing long pose studies of naked people. There are a million of those guys and they're all the same: so wrapped up in technical masturbation that they never advance beyond endless training.

Honestly, this seems pretty true. Proko is a pretty good example. Technically masterful as he is his actual creative endeavours are pretty sub par. Seems like when you've spent a decade hammering your brain with realism and perfection you can't break away from it when the time comes to actually make something novel.
HI guys, I'm looking for a decent portable drawing medium, particularly a tablet.
I really need to rely on the portability part, so I'm emphasizing on the weight more. Thus the wacom tablet series and anything heavier than surface pro 3/4 are not in my concern.
Currently I'm laying my eyes on ASUS Zen Pad S 8.0, along with a TP 1024 stylus. but also wonder if there's any better alternatives.
Thank you.
tablet threads are for /g/
yes got it, but I thought anon in this board might know better, since some may actually use certain models

Can somebody here tell me what that japanese word mean?

"Poor back anatomy."
Anyone here work at one of these places?
I've been working at one for a few months and I actually really enjoy it.
Just curious to hear about other Anon's experiences. I'll also answer any questions if you've got 'em.

Oh and in case you do not know what these are, they're usually called "paint and sips".
Basically, people who can't paint for crap pay to have an instructor lead them in painting a really simple painting while they get drunk.
It's kind of like paying to drink and paint with Bob Ross. Really popular with women in the 25-50 age group.

I think you have the wrong thread, friendo.
> Help eachother
> Be Real
Lets start a Portfolio thread where we can give eachother feedback on where we struggle, and how to fix them.
Not everyone may be ready for industry work, but that is where we can help eachother.
I will post mine.

You're certainly on the way anon, your rendering is nice in some places and your character designs are creative enough.
However, at the risk of parroting the common sentiments of this board, I really think you need to go back and get a better handle on your drawing. There are are a lot of instances where your construction and anatomy have let you down with the finished products. Many areas look flat despite the rendering and end up with that polished turd look where everything is just slightly uncanny,...

To be honest your work comes across as very generic and the type of stuff that gives sci-fi a bad reputation (armor that doesn't cover boobs, big guns and glowing swords, meaningless designs etc).
A lot of your designs look the same. You use the same type of blocky made up sci-fi shapes in each one. It would be cool if you could develop more of a distinct shape language for each, or have their designs draw influence from existing things to make them more interesting than blocky metal shapes. None of them...

Contemplating entering the upcoming BP portrait award, it's highly competitive, has like 2000 odd entries. It's quite prestigious to be one of the final 50.
Only problem I see it is that the judges show favour to laboriously detailed pieces that literally show every single hair and wrinkle, I think they also suffer from the same kind of pretentiousness the Oscars do, where "heavy" subject matter such as the aged, homeless, gay, and Holocaust survivors always do well.
Anyway, here's the winner from last year (best quality I could find).
>>2288810
And here's a sketch from the artist's website, seems a bit underwhelming, he clearly lacks ability with the fundamentals, I've seen much better from here on /ic/ to be quite honest.
Is the way to win these kinds of awards just to keep piling in the detail?
Close up, so you see what I ean about the obsession with detail, this is a pretty common complaint of this award btw, several British newspapers have been critical of the judges' choice for such detailed and morose work.

Awards are usually pretty meaningless. History does not remember paintings or artists for the awards they won. I think it is better to do art that is true to yourself, and if it happens to please the judges then good for you, but you shouldn't change who you and your art are just to try to win their favour. Would you rather win an award because you pandered to their tastes or because you did something genuine and it was recognized?
I probably shouldn't make a new thread for this, but does anyone have the pic of Vilppu as the emperor from Star Wars? Can't find it anywhere
>>2288761
Yeah, I do.
>>2288761
I'm not giving that one to you.
Post rare vilppus
I'm curious /ic/,
Why do you draw porn?
Is it because you want something to fap furiously to? Or because you realised that drawing porn gets you noticed more?
Personally, I draw porn so people can fap to them. I think it's an honour of sorts
clearly its just to fap. All the porn art on this board is fucking terrible. You can tell the artist just focuses on their shitty fetish while the anatomy, lighting, colors, and every other aspect of art is ignored.
Stop painting porn faggots. You are all awful at it.
>>2288453
>>2288456
better mad than an artist creating soulless boring porn art because they see some furfag making thousands of dollars doing it.
You faggots are worse than sakimichan.
the inktober threads didn't have that much live in them, so this might not kickoff but we can atleast try. btw here is the last inktober thread, where it also started the idea of this general >>>2270572

Looking for a good Art School, preferably a BA so i can use student finance. anyone know of any good places that focus on fundamentals and real technical development?
From what I know a lot of the masters are spread out in the EU. You should research what school follows whom etc.
Art school is a waste of time, but if you're going to do it do it properly.
>>2287431
3 years to focus solely on art with constant professional feedback depending on where you go makes it seem worth it to me.
First you need to know what kind of 'art', or rather with what goal you want to study. Then you can try to pinpoint where you best get that education.
If you want to go the run of the mill digital illustration route I personally believe self teaching is by far your best option.
>tfw your love of art replaces your lust when it comes to porn
>tfw when you see a picture and amidst the tits and ass you say "Those are some really good lines."
How has your study of art changed your perception of things.
I too got into art planning on drawing smut, and after spending maybe a month drawing really bad tits I haven't touched pornographic stuff in nearly a year.
It did sort of kill my ability to enjoy badly drawn smut.
It helped me vaguely appreciate more abstract art even if I still don't 'get it', at the very least in terms of some being well composed/having interesting use of color and stuff. I still much prefer more classical stuff though, and especially it's gotten me loving looking up the sketches by famous painters. I usually like their...

I think fat people are beautiful now.
damn Reubens
>>2287390
I'm a violently against tumblr "healthy at all sizes" shit, but fat models are fun to draw.
I've also started to think that all people look interesting, if I look at them with my drawing eyes. Life drawing has really made me appreciate how unique each and one of us is... No matter how gay that sounds.
just sharing my pain with you people. bye.

Art tests, can we discuss it?
How extensive test could or should a studio send and with what timeframe?
Is it okay to send a test before the interview and/or not reply with feedback after finishing one?
Paid vs unpaid?
I figure there has to be some professionals working in studios here. I'm particularly curious to hear from any senior/lead/art directors.
>>2286805
I don't see the issue with paid art tests and have done a few myself. Even if the pay isn't great it's still okay in my opinion. But I don't ever do free art tests and think it is inappropriate for studios to ask that of artists.
You probably shouldn't spend more than a day or two MAX on an art test.
>>2286805
that looks really man. looks like an advanced version of the material ball
>>2286809
Can I ask what level jobs you are applying to?
I had an eight hour test for my first job
Second and current job I had a two day test
Now trying to move on I've had 6 extensive tests that takes up and over a week to finish. It's not really working.
my hand is too shaky to draw (tourettes)
is it possible or even viable to learn to draw with the PS pen tool?
>>2286691
How shaky is it? Like major shakes or more of a tremble? It's possible to have a wobbly line quality with success, people like John Cuneo come to mind.
You can also try working at larger sizes so the shakes are minimized. Large sheets of newsprint for drawing, large canvases for painting.
Working with only the PS pen tool is probably not a good idea. I mean it might work but it would not be a good way to learn to draw properly and would be rather inefficient and give generally poor results.
>>2286692
its shaky enough that i havent had legible handwriting in my whole life :(
doesnt help that holding a pen or pencil hurts my hand because i have to keep a death grip to keep it from shaking
>>2286695
Post some art you made with deathgrip and some without
I want to see it
