Is the surface pro 4 good for drawing/ art?
I don't like those tabs that you can't really see the screen you're drawing on.
>>2334588
It really depends on how you use it. Alot of people complain it's too small to do shit, just like my 10.1 Samsung note tablet. I'm getting a Yiynova because of that.
There is a good side to these devices as they can be used for rough sketches that can be moved over to pc to be finished.
i got it for christmas and unfortunately NOTHING WORKS ON IT
it's got windows 10
krita
gimp
photoshop
firealpaca
paint tool sai
clip studio paint/manga studio
illustrator
autodesk sketchbook
none work. either they won't open, crash, or there is no pressure sensitivity.
i've tried updating the drivers, opening with different service packs, setting back to factory default, everything.
The only thing that works with the pressure is fresh paint. I can tell you from my experience with that (meh maybe 8 hours total, i don't think you can add layers so i just use it to sketch when i want. i usually just do traditionally) that it feels AMAZING. I love it more than the old cintiq i got to borrow for a couple weeks (12UX i think it is called) and the x60 tablet by lenovo. The stylus is nice, but the nib that comes with falls apart easy for some stupid reason. So, I bought another set and i use the sturdiest one. the difference between the nibs is not a lot. This is a very fast tablet pc and really fun to mess around with, but i really wish more things worked on it. i got it for school and for drawing, but i haven't done much drawing on it and i don't think i will be able to for a few months.
One thing i'd like to mention:
The stylus nib is not like wacoms. Instead of the screen being a matte surface, the nib is what has a different surface. it is really interesting. I like the keyboard more than i thought i would (i didn't have high expectations.) The hinge that keeps the tablet up is really really nice
if you have any other questions just ask, since i have one on hand.

That's odd. I had the first one and it was super easy to set up. Sounds defective.

So what is a good ideal ratio to have of fan art vs original stuff in an online gallery?
>>2335863
0 fan art, unless you want to be worshipped by people who doesn't matter :^)
>>2335863
It depends on the purpose of your portfolio - are you looking for a real job, or are you looking for fans to fuel up your patreon?

What if I am porn artist?
When drawing a cube in one point perspective, there must be a better system to draw in the back edge than "whatever looks right".
I have looked through a few books on perspective but cant find the answer. Is there some kind of precise formula that can be used?
Also, general perspective thread.
>>2335681
there is and it's relative to the distance you are looking at the cube but that's more complex. In reality you really don't need a perfect cube everytime.
>>2335681
Define a station point first. From there you'll have your main vanishing point at the center of vision, but you can also find one or both 45 degree vanishing points using the station point. For a perfect square on the ground plane, a line that connects opposite corners will also intersect the horizon at that square's diagonal vanishing point. In the case of 1pp this is also the 45 degree vanishing point you found earlier.
/r/ wasn't of any assistance; can anyone help me identify this pen?

That's a Rotring Isograph pen.

Looks more like a Staedtler Marsmatic to me, but both are pretty much the same.
I have a hard time getting anything I do past looking like a sketch
>>2334868
You do that by actually shading and rendering. But before you do that you really should look into perspective and anatomy.
>>2334868
check out Kr0n, you basically use a lot of color adjustment layers, grain, sharpen, and chromatic aberration.
>>2334868
use blue pencil for that (sketch)
and then work your way into detail
also work on weight lines for style
or crosshatch if your style is /co/
Anyone using this program here? How's this program (in comparison to Photoshop). Also, why can I only add three layers in Autodesk Sketchbook?
Pic related
I tried it. Didn't paint but I can tell the lines are even better than sai. No idea about the three layers thing you are talking about.
>>2333454
>the lines are even better than sai
How?
>>2333459
>>2333454
hes a retard, the only thing that makes good lines in a program is pressure control through curves. thats why photoshop is bad for linework, because it has no such functions. sai doesnt have that function eithe, but it has something similar but its not flexible(also its lightweight). programs such as tvpaint, stylos and manga are the superior programs for linework.
I practiced drawing so hard for so long that I can't do it anymore without it paining my head with psychological bullshit. I can't even go to /ic/ anymore without my head hurting. What you suggest I do. I want to come here and talk with you fellow artbros.

I feel yah. I told my friends that I couldn't hang out the other day because I had to study. One of them looked at me and was like "Don't even talk to me about studying ,I know all you do is draw all day" he acts like drawing is some kind of hobbyist pass time for me that I only do for fun. No one understands how serious I am about art. They're all going to college for engineering and shit, while I'm doing art, so I often get...

every artist is extremely lazy and a procrastinator or very focused on what he does
wich kind of are you?
I am lazy
then I feel motivated to draw something
then I realize it's shit and I suck at this
then I give up for a little time
then I feel like drawing again but I'm too lazy to do so
I start one thing then start on another halfway through the other leaving me with tons of unfinished work that I have no desire to complete. I'm a mess.
I used to work hard for years, but due to being a perfectionist, I was never happy with anything. In time, I became a procrastinator, because I associate drawing with failure.
