Why are so many great artist's fucked in the head some kind of way? A lot of the ones I know online either have bipolar disorder or some other mental illness but they draw like gods

>A lot of the ones I know online either have bipolar disorder or some other mental illness
that's probably just your confirmation bias anon.

No they pretty much exhibit all the signs of being bipolar
>sweet as peaches and creams one minute
>vicious and aggressive the next, particular when it comes to something like criticizing their art
>cranks out a lot finished pieces almost daily, then suddenly gets depressed and takes a long long hiatus
>without warning, starts drawing again and goes back at that abnormally fast work pace

I think I have, but I'm sure is mostly because I sleep like 4 hours a day and get kind of depressed because of not working more in my art or because I'm not good enough
/ic/ thoughts on bob ross?
>>2586618
he gets people excited about making art and admits he's not the best. I respect him more for what he said than what he painted.
His stuff is pretty nice. His show is aimed at amateurs but it's fun to watch and he's a super cool person
>>2586618
I greatly respect him and he taught me the most important lesson in that time + effort = talent
He's doing GOUACHE.

I want to carry my sketchbook with me more often and I would like a reccomendation for a bag that is low profile and inexpensive, and what you guys would use
>>2595890
Why can't you use your backpack?
>>2595894
mine is too bulky, and it looks suspicious at times(I live in an area full of racist Koreans who constantly think I'm shoplifting)
>>2595896
Then get a nicer Backpack? If the sketchbooks small enough pockets can be enough also.
i wanna learn how to color with 1 or 2 layers only but it seems idk what im doing any users out there who can give me tips?
>>2596240
If you want to paint like as if you're painting traditionally, see this vid from CtrlPaint
http://www.ctrlpaint.com/videos/paint-flat-01-simplicity
If you want to do anime-styled illustration, then I see no reason to limit yourself to 1 or 2 layers since that might make things more difficult to adjust later.
>>2596247
im trying to achieve the realistic look while maintaining the anime element, if you know what i mean.
>>2596240
that face looks flat as hell senpai
Hey /ic/ I figured this was the best place to ask, though I'm not sure if you're willing to help. I want to know what the fuck is up with the fibonacci spiral. It's always placed over a painting as if there's something to see, but I never see any pattern, just a painting with a spiral over it.
In short:
>What should I be noticing?
Congratulations, you've skipped the step where you actually think it's important.
The fibonacci sequence looks nice in a general way, but not every aesthetically-pleasing thing lines up with it. Half of these are jokes.
>>2596087
And here I was thinking I was moments away from having my view of the world completely turned around.
Whatever. Glad I got it out of the way.
>>2596082
good way to think about it. the closer to the center of your spiral. the more detail. its you're image's main focal point. further you go away you can leave some detail out and not render as much
How long did take you faggots to get used to a tablet and then the programs, like Photoshop and Paint Tool Sai (Actually PTS is more easier to get into)?
Pic related is the best I can do in like 15 minutes or so.
>>2594418
I took a ps class in high school. Tablet took me prob 3 days. I played a lot of metroid prime hunters so maybe that helped.
>>2594439
You played Metroid Prime with a tablet?
>>2594418
I knew how to use Photoshop before I started drawing regularly. Tablet probably took a week to get used to.
Why is it that in many of his paintings there is people doing some sort of gang sings?
Will post more examples if needed.

I havent done any art for a couple of years now... fell really rusty and uninspired. where should i start at again to get some skill back???
read the sticky
post in the beginner thread

Buy drawing on the right side of the brain, go to hm and s, and draw those guys and gals until you want to vomit. Rinse and repeat. Inspiration is flakey and not efficient if you want to git good. Concentrate on developing good habits and self discipline instead to ensure you will draw even when you feel lazy.
How can I practice drawing faces?
Do I simply have to use photos of faces? Or should I look for another method?
First try to understand the structure of a regular face, like what is it under the skin you see, proportions and stuff
Then looking at pictures is a good idea to avoid the "same face" in every of your drawings
at this point i dont know what's bait anymore

just bought this fixer upper home. walls need paint and taping needs to be sanded. There's a wacom not shown. But whatever. this is part of my project den.
How did you get over this?
I have this idea of how good I want to be. I can judge if something is good or not. So there is this frustration when I want to make something good but simply can't. Not today, not tomorrow, not in a week and not even this year. So when I am practicing I quickly get frustrated and lose focus and patience. I know there is no way around it but still...
I feel like most people got over this by starting out early before they got really self-conscious about their work and finding enjoyment in the process and not caring about the result.
Any...

Literally everyone goes through this. You arent a special snowflake. Just keep drawing
>>2595455
But how did they get over it? Drawing isn't as mechanical as for example working out where you can just go through the motions. Practice has to be deliberate.
>>2595504
Stop overthinking everything and draw.
Hay Ladies and Gentlemen!
I used to post on DA and was happy: awesome site features, nice community, groups... but then I found out about the rules.
They basically hate explicit stuff.
So now I'm wondering where should I go posting my stuff, I'd prefer something different from Hentai Foundry, it lacks some of the features that makes DA cool.
I don't know all the places and I thought to ask here.
The drawing is mine and that's what I like to do.
I'm just looking for a place to post my stuff, receive some hugs and...

Man, that's really disgusting. Study what makes things erotic.
Try soup. it's like dumblr but not run by faggots so they allow all types of smut to be posted.
deviantArt = western, mostly sfw, shitty rules for nsfw
soup = western, both sfw and nsfw
pixiv = non-western, both sfw and nsfw
critique on your image:
- stop running your art through a sharpen effect, it really hurts the eyes to look at.
if you want super crisp edges, just draw lines without anti-aliasing instead.
- red-head has the generic "DreamWorks" face expression.
- the small dick looks like a nose with a raspberry stuck to the end of it, learn how to draw dicks.
Hay thanks a lot I'll check those out. I never quite liked the roughness of people here, there's no need to be rude or trying to be creative in pointing out what you think it's not ok dishing out random sarcasm.
But fair enough.

How does one be original today ? Is it possible not to be a post-modernist, since I feel like everything has been done and originality+quality is almost impossible.
>le everything has already been done meme
assert yourself
Nothing is original everything is based on something
just remember there's a difference between being inspired by something or copying it
Find something that you like or invokes a feeling of inspiration or excitement (read books ,watch movies and shows, read comics and manga etc.) and originality will just follow
>>2595151
Draw what you are interested in, be inspired by art that resonates with your taste and forget about consciously trying to do shit that's never been done before.
That's how you create honest art with a clear artistic voice, which is your closest shot at ever creating something others will perceive as original.
