H. R. Giger, Zdzisław Beksiński, Aeron Alfrey and anything inspired by the darkest depths of the mind.
Interesting thread
OP is back, glad to see thread has caught some attention.
>>2594728
bump! Wish I had some HR photos I could post.
>>2594728
Holy shit, that's amazing.
I am a painter who does this kind of stuff mostly and when I see these works I realize how much detail I lack.
Anyone got any high rez early warhammer/40k art? Stuff like Blanche or anything chaos related.
>>2595861
Keep working, we need this kind of art
It's nice to see something other than celeb threads for once!
>>2596051
>>2596058
These ones by Robert Kipniss are understated but still creepy as fuck in my opinion
>>2596061
they definitely have a dreamlike quality tothem
Giger and Beksiński, both GENIUS.
>>2594731
one of my favorites
>>2596677
u mean both overrated lol
>>2596778
Same here! As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I can't help but see the resemblance to the Valley of the Dark Lords on Korriban.
>>2595861
post ur work
>>2597307
i will say its pretty amateurish, there a alot of artists doing this bekinski-esque skeletal landscape allready, its maybe a bit to familiar.
. https://www.instagram.com/p/7wG6kNPpiH/ this one is probably my favorite.
do you do any drawing, because i think some of this could translate well into b/w pen drawings or something.
>>2597341
I draw a tiny bit but I am Terrible at it. Mostly just sketch out an idea to remember when I draw.
You may want to improve the lighting of your paintings - this means defining where the light source is and how shadows are cast as well as choosing an overall hue of the light which influences your color choices. You should also take into consideration that objects reflect color on each other.
>>2594728
valley of death?
>>2594730
i feel like there should be five pentagrams.
unless i'm either missing it or its about the marriage betwixt light and dark
>>2596051
trying to read this almost made me cry
>>2597150
>>2597137
gotta love dore
>>2597359
It does indeed lack detail bro. I can see that you got some fucked up shit (as in dark ideas/atmosphere ) but it doesn't really go anywhere from there on out.
I don't know how or if you can practice depth, or if it's talent, but if you can get better, do it! You have the imagination
>>2594937
Never have I seen a piece of art that gave me so many feels.
>>2596017
Why does the devil at the back doesn't even give a fuck? What's the story behind him?
bump
great thread, especially the Gustave Doré's Dante's Inferno wood engravings.
I may be dumping the whole set of Inferno soon if you guys are interested
>>2605915
Dump, please and thanks.
>>2594730
all giger seems to paint is surreal dicks, if he says that he gets inspiration from his dreams he needs to ask himself some questions
>>2606071
*facepalm* did you ever read about H.R. Giger, apparently not because dicks, porn and vagina's are his prime subjects....must be one of those after 2000 kids.
>>2606241
Or in his own words: the subjectation of female froms under the male biomechanical expression of dominance and forced intercourse.
Jozef stolorz, also a polish artist. Not very well known, and greatly underestimated. Amazing traditional painter.
It's just quite hard to find his work online in high res.
wish I had something to contribute but thanks to all that did.
>>2622712
Might as well have the whole thing
amazing
underrated thread thanks guise
>>2594940
Absolutely
>>2594730
what gets me about giger is that he was absolutely terrified of his works, they all came from his night terrors, but they show a clear knowledge of the esoteric/occult so it makes you wonder what he felt about the subject matter

This one is amazing. It generates anxiety and the feeling that something is going to slowly appear in front of you, but at the samw time you know it won't. everything about this picture is mysterious and unsettling

Wow. So much to see in there.

Personally I'm always reminded of Frollo's song in Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, when the cardinals line up like this and silently judge him, breathing heavily... that still freaks me out to this day.
>>2601656
This one gave me feels :(
>>2618306
Dude, I loved that book. I never thought enough to draw parallels between this sort of art and the story, though.
I prefer this other version's lighting, colors, and expression, but it's too small:

does anyone have that painting of a skeleton reaper grabbing a guys head from behind and cutting his throat with a knife, it looked like he was going for a decapitation. It was painted kinda like this >>2645453
>>2645487
Yeah, okay.
>>2645487
Literally no such thing.
>>2618306
all of his art was based on the terrible nightmares he had, i hear he locked up his paintings after finishing them because he hated them

Oops, no that one isnt from deviantart
Dark Souls had the opportunity to get really twisted with the third game and go in the direction of some of these paintings. Specially with areas like the Cathedral of the Deep. It's still fantastic but I wish it delved a little deeper into art like the paintings posted here.
boomp
That title though.

People who are drawn to art as a profession have a high level of mirror neurons; the brain cells that allow young mammals to mimic adults, essentially play.
He was probably unable to view his paintings objectively, every time they came into view, he experienced a strong emotional reaction.

Man, I don't know exactly why, but it is like I can feel that lamb feeling... Great art.

This was the best thread I've seen on this board in a long time. I don't know anything about art but I'm going to do some research on some of the artists itt. Thanks to everyone who contributed.
