nope, wrong. snapchat's servers didn't get hacked. people were using third party app and sites like snapsave (which are against snapchat's terms of service) to access the same APIs used by the official app to download photos and keep them. those third party sites are the ones who got hacked.
but yeah there's basically no way to ensure that a digital photo will be "temporary," so the security of snapchat is an illusion. if it exists, it can be copied. the movie and music industries learned this a long time ago.
even if all the servers were 100% secure, the API somehow restricted to the official app, and everyone's phone could be prevented from jailbreaking or taking screenshots, you could still always just take a photo of your screen with another device. there is no way snapchat could ever work as promised all of the time
