Fracking is not, all things considered, bad. Through fracking we can easily extract natural gases. These gases give us an energy source that is much more environmentally friendly than oil or, god forbid, coal. With fracking we might actually bridge the gap until we can use green energy for everything and not destroy life on this planet.

it's also helped preserve actic wilderness from extreme energy development
1. we cannot go green and expect to stay at high capacity, we have to go to thorium to achieve safe, nuclear power
2. fracking 'can' be safe if done with the right geological substrate and done carefully with much oversight and limited drilling
3. fracking was the 21st century 'gold rush' and has made boom/bust cycles in pennsylvania, ohio, west virginia and many other places (it's the latest rape of appalchia for sure after timber and coal)
4. they gave away licenses indiscriminately and had but little oversight and then went all government strong arm on resisters: it is a racket
5. pumping millions of gallons of hot, toxic chemicals deep underground and somehow expecting nothing but 'clean' extraction of natural gas and petro-sludge for processing is a fool's dream: groundwater contamination, earth shifts and soil contamination are the usual result and are not generally factored in by the boys eager to make us energy self-sufficient
6. i was in southeastern ohio protesting and we actually had a fucking EARTHQUAKE: in.fucking.ohio as a result while we were there, a whole series of them
7. red flags are red flags and you cannot just wish them away
ok, so like i became a green warrior and maybe i'm biased, but fracking is not the answer, but i'm actually in favor of carefully developing surface oil shales out in the arid west because they're right fucking there on the surface and don't involve extensive strip mining or pumping poison down deep wells
i've also seen what unbridled resource exploitation does to the locals, who are the most immediate victims, but we'll have the environmental catastrophe to live with for a long, long time
