Would USA still get involved into WW2 if Japanese didn't attack Pearl Harbor but still went on to invade South East Asia colonies of other Western Powers?

USA already was involved in WW2 to some extent before Pearl Harbour, they were helping to supply the Allies in Africa

Supplying allied troops and putting your own troops on the line are two different things though.
>>

seriously, why did japan attack?

who would think attacking a nation several times your size, population, and that has access to a personal supply of war making materials with a history of stepping on smaller nations and the whole "mastering the Americas" thing?
>>
>>990967
They thought that war with America was inevitable and it was their destiny to free all Asia from Western influence or some other bullshit. In other words nips were retarded and chew off more than they could handle.

The US was doing more than just supplying allied troops even before pearl harbor.
For example there was massive US air support during el alamein. Something that's been conveniently forgotten by most brits.
FDR always had a massive hardon for war.

When the US halted talks over China until Japan pulled out, Japan decided that the US was going to dick them regardless so they opted for pre-emptive strike.

Don't forget the undeclared naval war against German ships in the Atlantic.

>Pearl Harbor - 1941 December
>El Alamein - 1942 October-November
Those fucking Americans supporting their Allies!!

US embargoed Japan after their aggression and several massacres in China which meant that in few years(let's say by 1942-1943) they'll be out of resources for future conquests, even worse - China, now getting material help from USSR, Great Britain and the US may have been able to break the stalemate at some point of time since Japanese army in China was enormously overextended by the time.

The point of the attack was to force the US to drop the embargoes, sanctions etc. which would allow them to expand freely in Asia. They thought that several big hits in the US navy will be enough to force some sort of peace treaty on favourable terms.

The same people that clung to the Philippines for so long EVER letting an attack go? baka japanpai

The thing was that they never actually hit US navy heavily. You may say Pearl Harbour - but most of warships down there were only lightly damaged and I think only one couldn't be repaired and used afterwards. Outside of it they've had few cheap-shots but they've failed to capture American shipping, they failed to protect their own shipping and they failed to win a decisive battle once it actually happened.

The point of the attack was to cripple the PacFleet so they can have 6 months to take the Philippines, Singapore, and DEI, plus US bases. They never expected the US to fold because of Pearl harbor.

I thought it was because of Japan attacking the Dutch East Indies

Boots on the ground? Who knows. But they were already well involved with the entire "arsenal of democracy" thing (which incidentally would have probably been enough, given the disparity between economic potentials of Germany and its allies and the USSR, UK and their allies). Also they did not like the Japanese ambitions in Asia one bit, so maybe they would have been attacked elsewhere or dragged into the war by aggression in the Pacific - either against the US or some of its allies - anyway?

The only reason for US not being at war in Dec 6 1941 was because it had not finished rearming.
