Who was the richest person of all time?

I'm told it was that roman charioteer guy

Crassus probably. Or Octavian

>>982633

Probably not.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wealthiest_historical_figures#Marcus_Licinius_Crassus - isn't of course the word of god but isn't bad either.
>>
>>982622
1. Mansa Musa, $400 billion. Far and away the richest man to ever walk the face of the Earth was Mansa Musa, or Musa I of Mali. As the reigning emperor of the Mali empire, Musa commanded a fortune worth a jaw-dropping $400 billion
>>
>>982622
Well if you think that the researchers at celebrity.com are effective scholars then >>982645 if not then probably one of the patriarchs of one of the great wealthy families
>>
Crassus seems so devoid of any sort of charisma or personality- like the anti-Caesar.
>>
>>982667

You'd be pissed too if you were him.
>>
>>982676
Why is that?
>>
People say Crassus, but from what I recall, I believe Plutarch said that there were several people under the Julio-Claudian who were richer
>>
>>982622
>>982633
Both these guys and Augustus will always be in contention with one another for wealthiest. Their wealth was so vast no even contemporaries could be sure how much hey had.
>>
>>982622
Time Magazine already answered that.
>>
>>982645
That guy upset mecca's economy with how much money he spent there during his pilgrimage.

>Marcus Licinius Crassus, $2 trillion equivalent.

Pompey pretty much stole all glory from him, at least from his perspective. Imagine, despite being the richest man alive, being so mad that in a vain attempt to win glory you lose disastrously, die and catalyst the end of the republic.
>>
>>982645
Crassus had a lot more than that
>>
>>982822
I thought he tried to conquer the Parthians because he was a greedy fuck
>>
Impossible to tell really. Who knows how much money Stalin owned, or over how much he could exert power.
But yeah, Crassus is probably high up the list, if we're talking non-governmental individuals.
>>
>>982622
He who has learnt to love himself :^)
>>
Probably some pre-Mongolian fun time Chinese emperor.
>>
>>982622
Crassus and his fire companies. The apocryphal story of the Parthians poring molten gold down his throat. To quench his insatiable thirst for wealth says it all.
>>
>>982736
underrated post
>>
>>982736
No. Adam had no one to sell his possessions to, and where there is no potential buyer there is no economic value that can be expressed in terms of money.

If anything, Eve the moment she had an apple that Adam also wanted was richest, because she held the entirety of the world's demanded goods.

>Crassus
Quick reminder to everyone saying Crassus: the riches he accumulated in decades of real estate market were outdone by Pompey and Caesar spending a decade sacking Asia and Gaul.
One of the reasons he accepted to align himself with his sworn enemy Pompey in the triumvirate was so he could go and rape Syria and Parthia so as to close the gap.
Crassus was nowhere near the richest roman.

He has to actually exist, otherwise the answer to OP's question is "Scrooge McDuck".

>>982622

I would say he's alive right now, tho we don't know his name. The super-rich alive today have more access to luxury than any previous people did.
>>
>>983494
Adam owned all of the gold in the world, which is a greater amount of gold than Scrooge McDuck owned.

You can't even think of a fictional character richer than Adam.
>>
>>983499
>You can't even think of a fictional character richer than Adam.

Sure I can, what about a sci-fi Space Emperor who owns thousands of worlds full of gold and people and stuff?

God Emperor Leto II

>>
>>983494

IMO being rich is about relative wealth compared to your peers. Not the absolute amount of luxury you have acces to.
>>
>>983528
See? That's how you do it.
>>
>>983530

Well even then I'd say a modern billionaire is richer in relative terms than the global average than some heathen king was. Idk how you'd measure that, tho, but I know most people throughout history have lived on roughly $1 a day, and while the modern "poverty level" is ten times that, the average multi billionaire is more than ten times as rich as any historical king.

>>

No he was trying to reassert himself. Pompey and Caesar both had huge victories that were fresh in everyone's minds. Aside from being insanely rich, Crassus really hadn't done anything of note since he crushed Spartacus.
>>
>>982622
The one with most friends.
>>
>>983878
How many waverunners can you buy with 'friends'?
>>
>>983885
Well, having tons of friends you probably have one friend with waverunner who will gladly borrow it to you.

>Have enough friends
>Form an army out of your friends
>Overthrow the government
>Declare all the waverunners governmental property

You could have as many waverunners as you want
>>
>>983891
You don't? I'm an eastern European janitor and I have 3 waverunners just sitting in my garage.
>>
>>983857

And Pompey got the credit from that.
>>
What about the Pope? Aren't all of the vatican's treasures/possessions considered his personal possessions?
>>
Riches are far more abstract than commas in a bank account.

Probably one of the private entities in control of printing the world's reserve currency.
>>
>>984096
Not that there is much credit to be had by crushing a slave revolt for a Roman
>>

Some Russian guy told me the most expensive item of Stalins possessions was his pipe. Don't know if that's true or just something they tell Russian school kids.

That's like saying everything belonging to the United States of America is personal property of the president.

Im not sure of this but, Perhaps the ronan emperor Trajan ... He got many many many tons of gold and silver from his conquest of Dacia.. If not then def Augustus

Stalin was kinda like Robespierre. Robespierre didn't get rich either, he did it for ideals.
>>
>>988685

Hardly. 20 Trillion is a pittance to 137 Trillion. The Rothschilds command the value of gold itself, decided every day at 10am in an EU bank. Rockefellers are kinda pleb tier at 11 Trillion.
