And on the subject of the Civil War, The South did a better job proportionally of providing for thousands of prisoners it basically had no food or facilities to care for, while the Union had plenty of resources and literally just did not care.
Not saying either was a walk in the park, but the Confederate camps were mostly a product of incompetence and lack of resources, not malice.

Yeah I was reading about one of the Confederate prison camps and the aftermath of it, and it was pretty tragic. Of course you can't be expecting much good to come from a prison camp, but the one camp in question was over capacity, under-supplied, and it only got worse as the war went on. There was nothing the commander could really do to make things better, as nobody was willing or able to divert more supplies to the camp, and ultimately, once the war was over, the commander was executed by the Union because he was held responsible for all the people who died in the camp.

You can be happy about the revolution succeeding but don't pretend for a second that it was "a bunch of half starved, under equipped farmers and sailors". It was more like ~10,000 or so, give or take, and they only participated in one major engagement, at the end of the war, when American forces had already defeated every major British field army without direct French involvement.
Even if you include sailors and ships, which had more of an impact, it's still less than 40k or so total personnel, and their impact on British naval operations was never enough to actually prevent the British from getting supplies and men to the continent in sufficient amounts.
The British never lacked for manpower of supplies, and even if the French had not engaged in a limited naval conflict with the British, the American strategy of attrition and avoidance would still have worked no matter how many men and guns the Brits shipped to the continent.
Now, if you want to talk about ways in which France actually did help the colonies, you should have mentioned the financial aid and bank loans the French gave to the colonial congress (which bankrupted France and inadvertently caused their own Revolution), or the fact that like 90% of the colonials gun powder came from France.
I'm not un-mindful of the role the French played in the revolution, but that doesn't mean they single handedly won the war for the US or something.
