Studying the steppe is a bit like studying the core of the earth.

You know it's there, but you have to infer all of your data due to the impossibility of direct observation.
>>
>>980015
Weren't some of them buried with weed?

It sucks that all we have to go by is accounts from people that hated/feared them.

Unstoppable bands of horsemen roaming and raping everything until muskets shut that shit down. Horse archers on vast flat plains were basically the nukes of the old world.
>>
>>979964
There is a large Steppe belt spanning Eurasia. Several peoples inhabited it in ancient times such as the Scythians, etc.
>>
>>980032
I know dat ho...
>>
Every weird and conquering civilization was born there. Mongols, Huns, Hungarians, Scythians, Bulgars, Bulgarians, Tartars, Alans, Turks, ect. They crashed like waves into Europe and Asia and washed away what could not stand up to them.
>>
>>979964
Rightful bulgarian clay.
>>
>>979964
The Iranian and Indo-Aryan languages spoken in the Middle East and South Asia were brought by steppe nomads.

Meme, organized combined arms standing armies did.
>>
>>980068
>le ragtag band of horsefuckers meme

All of the big deal nomad armies were:
>professionally trained and drilled
>included a large infantry force
>had capable generals and tacticians
>well armed and armored
>had a diverse park of siege equipment
>some had a strong navy to boot
>>
>>982183
>had a diverse park of siege equipment
Nope.jpg

Only Mongols Post-Empire and the various Turkics who made empires in the middle east did.

>some had a strong navy to boot
HAHAHAHAHHAHA

This isnt a video game. You capture a city on the coast, its full of competent boat builders and captains. Probably a few ships already in port.
>>
>>982190
>>982241
Don't know about navy, but Mongols had siege engineers aplenty by the time they reached Kievan Rus.

Reading the fourth book of the Histories by Herodotus, which is about the Scythes, ask me anything

Were they white??

The mongols used ships to attack Japan and assist the attack of Korea.

M8, the Yuan ""Navy"" was notoriously bad. All their fucking naval campaigns in Vietnam, Java, and Japan were complete disasters.

They didn't understand ships. They fucking ordered their Chinese subjects to just get everything floating for invasion fleets and not wait for dedicated warships to leave the drydocks. Including the flat hulled riverboats that had a difficult time at sea.

The only successful "Mongol" naval campaign was the Battle of Yamen....because its commander was a Chinese admiral. With the establishment of Yuan, due to the race-based caste system the Chinese could not command campaign-level engagements anymore and even naval command was given to clueless Mongol commanders
>>
Who got fucked over worst by nomads and why was it Persia?
>>
>>982316
They literally lost the Japan campaign because of bad weather. Or do you think that warships would've been immune to the storm?
>>
>>982296
yep

>This isnt a video game. You capture a city on the coast, its full of competent boat builders and captains. Probably a few ships already in port.

Mongols built a navy in the Crimea to counter the Genoese. Surprise, it got sunk virtually instantly.
>>
>>982331
So they lost a naval battle? How do horse archers lose a naval battle? Don't naval battles require ships? Or did they ride sea horses?
>>
>>982327
>Japan campaign because of bad weather
Which the seagoing ships fucking survived.

While the flat bottomed press-ganged river boats which transported a lot of forces sank.
>>
>>982325

Reconstruction shit has always been pretty bad so that's about as accurate as jackshit.
>>
>>983299
Persians stopped be semi-nomadic by the time Cyrus the Great's grandfather became the King of Anshan in the mid or late 7th century.

>>982325
If you mean because of Mongolian and Turkic atrocities, then certainly the Iranians and Chinese as a whole suffered the most. Genghis, Tamerlane, etc...
>>
>>982325
Persians WERE the steppe nomads who had already formed a civilization and started chasing other tribes out. Modern Persians are a mix of original Iranic tribes/invaders and the native Neolithic farmers I.e. Anatolians

Mongolids expanded from Yakutia and permafrost areas, their original homeland. Mongols are Paleo-Siberian and originally lived like and are related to Evenks, Chukchi, Eskimos, Yakuts. They were reindeer herders or hunters.
They met horse riding Scythians and Tocharians, and learned the horse-riding steppe culture from them.
With the newly adopted steppe-lifestyle based on the horse (taken originally from Scythians), Mongolids gradually grew and expanded to mongolia. From there they eradicated the original Scythians/Tocharians and continued genociding Scythians/Tocharians who were indigenous to Central Asia.

Today Central Asia is inhabited by the Mongolids who replaced the Scythians.

Pretty sure the notion of Central Asia being Iranic before the Turkic expansions in 4th-7th century AD isn't really a disputed theory.

Degenerate whore
>>
>>987219
Yep, at least until the 10th or 11th century it was still pretty heavily Iranic. Last holdouts now I believe are Tajikistan and Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan.
