Arius and Constantine were tight; Constantine wanted all of the Christians to unite under Arius, and give him the hegemony he desired. Real Christians obviously refused to follow this heretic, and so Christianity was split. Arius' side gained in political power, and real Christians gained in God's Kingdom.

If you read Constantines letters he was very apathetic, "I don't care settle this shit out" was his ideology. He could easly burn nicean works if the concensus was pro arius.
It was not Arius himself but He later on Baphtized by a pro arian in his bed and his son was extremely pro arian (a trend that Julian exploited)
