The siege of Paris isn't really humiliating. It was a siege, the Germans just waited. Sedan is the humiliating defeat of 1870.

It clearly was just Switzerland that shouldered the burden in that war. None of those other major powers had anything to do with it.

This is like saying since they joined the Allied powers, Mexico single handedly defeated the Nazis.

this desu. the siege of paris is actually very interesting. it was a surprisingly free atmosphere. free elections for the city government were held throughout and the blanquists tried to violently overthrow the government by taking over the city hall but national guards were smuggled in through secret tunnels and they backed down. The whole mobilization of the national guards created a comfy atmosphere. the different districts of paris had their own national guard militias run by committees of elected locals who were respected in the community. The discipline was poor in them, but the camraderie must have been the comfiest to ever exist; the generals were fatalistic about the national guard's potential and so didn't drill them therefore leaving the national guard to organize welfare, clubs and social drinking.
