Catholicism was made popular by Constantine. They basically mixed Christianity with paganism, that's the birth of the RCC.

I read Acts and I know that my spiritual ancestors were a mess. That being a Christian is a messy business. That trying to be Christians together is even a messier business. The Roman and Orthodox churches are basically two legs on the same statue; both are exclusive salvation belongs to their membership only, and both have their rites and rituals to cling to. They would be one church if the Orthodox submitted to the pope in Rome.
The Christian view of salvation is that unless a person is born again, in the Spirit, they will not enter into the Kingdom of God. That Jesus removed the sin barrier between Man and God, and that satisfied God's justice, holiness, and righteousness, and God in His grace and mercy offered whoever believes eternal life.
And that once you're saved, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside you, and guide you, and resurrects you to eternal life. And that once saved, you're saved. Period. You don't have to continually petition God for forgiveness, repent, obey, sin, repent, confess, penance, etc., etc., etc., the rest of your life.
You are free.
So the biggest difference is that the former two have no idea how to be saved, or what salvation means, they only have clubs to join and hope the club can get them in.

I try to keep myself busy either in religious studies or some distraction but when I see some pretty woman on the street or on TV, well... you can imagine what I think of. I no longer look at pornography nor do I masturbate, of course, but the battle is getting tougher and I am now finding myself looking at non-pornographic pictures of women on the internet as if to whet my appetite, which is indefensible and only placing myself in a bad position.

If your church is heavily "folk" (i.e. a club for your local Greek or Russian community) then he will either tell you to go somewhere else or will baptise you right away (especially if you are married to an Orthodox girl).
A good priest will expect you to hang around, come to the Liturgy for a few weeks/months (or longer, there is no rush), speak to other people in the parish, then ask to be admitted as a catechumen. From there it's usually a year of instruction and settling in before being baptised.

It may be your weakness as an individual or such.
