Why was Song Dynasty China so GOAT?

Why are Chinese people so ethnocentric?
They are worse than Jews who think they are Gods chosen people.
Nothing against Jews, that's really what Jews think.
>>
>>927887
>Ethnocentric.
>Civilization that accepted anyone who subscribed to Chinese culture as "Chinese." even if he was a red-haired Iranic cunt.
T. Turkic General in Chinese army who totally wont betray you.

I'm talking about Chinese people today.
What happened?

Everyone in Asia was bitten by the Nationalism bug in 1800's. Since the cool advanced Europeans were doing it.
>>
>>927940
So I take it the Opium Wars helped trigger this nationalistic push? Probably topped off with Moa in the 1900s?

The funny thing is that moveable type printing never took off for them since it was impractical for the thousands of chinesse characters so they stuck with block printing

It took off. It just didn't match the rate of printing in the west.

It was fucking needed for bureaucracy for one thing.

The weirdest part about China is that throughout all their technological advances they still held that the earth was flat until the Jesuits showed up.

Flat and went on forever. Think "space" but you could walk to another "planet." With China in the center of it all, of course.

Pretty sure they figured out steel long before the song dynasty.

I'd also say capitalism is a long stretch, i.e. no free market and all the stuff the Dutch came up with in the 16th and 17th century.

Okay, capitalism may be the wrong word. But they had a highly unified nationwide market with an unified tax system, private businesses and the promotion of regional specialization and efficiency.
Plus paper money and some primitive joint stock companies.

And then they went in decline, Yuan showed up and then ming and everything went to shit :(

Well, the mongols ruined all the fun, but what can you do?
Southern Song actually held out for decades while every other enemy collapsed before the mongol onslaught in weeks.

No but it made the lives of the people a little shittier.
>>
>>928338
The Mongols are the single greatest evil in all of human history. Back to back civilisation destroying specialists.

Chinese Fire Mop Weapon.jpg

>>928598
The firelance is not the craziest of Song period weapons. In fact it was pretty normie.

The weird incendiary weapon of the Song Period Chinese would be this "mop" weapon that was dipped in some flammable sticky, gelatinous substance based on petroleum and set alight. The wielder then proceeds to flick the "mop" and hurl gobs of sticky flaming shit at the enemy. It was insane.

The Song Dynasty weapons advancements largely can be summarized as "Chinese playing with fire." Gunpowder weapons, flamethrowers, and fucking this.

get butthurt you settled cuck, nomads 4 life

also, the Yuan Dynasty was instrumental in many ways for modern day China so get doubly rekt

It Stopped since Ming Dynasty
>>
>>929656
>was instrumental in many ways for modern day China
is that really an accomplishment worthy of praise
>>
>>930547
That depends on whether you think laying much of the groundwork for what is soon to become by far the most powerful country on earth is praiseworthy or not
>>
>>930547
of course, the modern day borders of China, especially the Southwest, are directly a legacy of the Yuan's territorial expansion

also, the Yuan was very much a vibrant empire with expanding cultural spheres, bureaucratic administration, and intensified trade links with Southeast Asia and the Middle East - all of which I could put down as praiseworthy accomplishments
>>
>>927973
There was a shit ton of it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Century_of_humiliation

But the concept of national humiliation is also a post-1989 communist party propaganda tactic, so it's hard to tell whether or not the nationalism currently associated national humiliation is the same as the nationalism present in the late 19th century.

I thought the consensus was that Song was a sort of bleak age between the GOAT Tang and Ming revival.

That's essentially a requirement for civilization to spread you moron.

>I thought the consensus was that Song was a sort of bleak age between the GOAT Tang and Ming revival.
Militarily and politically? Probably. But I think the civil, artistic, technological, and (probably) most importantly, economical, developments have a distinctly modern flavour that are compelling for a lot of people. This is especially true with the argument that they were on the cusp of their own Industrial Revolution and such.
