How could someone seriously claim that consumption isn't high enough? What an absolutely fucking disgusting thought.

Spending = income. If there's a sudden drop in spending, there will necessarily be a drop in income.

The problem is, wages are sticky, if the business loses money people don't all take a pay cut, they get fired.

More people getting fired -> even less spending -> more people getting fired.

The way out of this is to just step in and make sure spending doesn't drop (through government spending, typically).
