Romantic art is mostly boring with a few great pieces. Romantic music is solid overall. Romantic poetry is GOAT.
Sappy, meaningless crap for bored, rich aristocrats of the 19th Century. Modernism kicked it in the nuts, got in a race car and sped away, giving it the finger as it whimpered like a dandy on the floor.

I reckon it's largely fucking dull.

Assuming we are just talking about painting that is.
Predictable countermovement to realism. I think it's kind of childish and naive.
Romanticism was great and it's a shame modernism/realism had to come and kill it. Concerning art, I should feel good and pleased instead of being reminded how much life sucks.
While I like Romanticism, I do believe the fact that it got destroyed by modernism is a good thing, as it is a fate that - ironically - is pretty Romantic and gives it much more appeal and makes it much more "beautiful", in a way.

Didn't realism come before?

No nevermind that was neoromanticism.
