Why and how did Bulgaria wind up where it is today?
Haven't the Bulgarians been there since the Slavs came in? They just happened to get the name Bulgarians once some steppe folks came in and took over, they ending up as getting assimilated.

Bulgars didn't even make their vlach and slav subjects to spoke their language as the magyars did.
Bulgarians are Turkics

Correct me if I'm wrong, but compared to the Turkish, who are Anatolians with a little Turk thrown in there and speaking a Turkic language the Bulgarians are Slavs and Vlachs with a little Turk thrown in there but speaking a Slavic language? Shitty formulation, I know, but that's how it made sense to me.

It's much more complicated than that desu
Slavs haven't came into an empty country. There were Thracians, Greeks, Romans, Dacians etc.
Genetic composition of Bulgaria, which is at the intersection of cultures and continents, must be pretty heterogeneous
