Falcatas are seriously beautiful. They have smoothness and exotic value but not in a silly or fantasy way like the kopesh, and they seem functional. I guess it's like a fancy machete. A sexy fancy machete.

It's not mine. I took it from Google image search. Like the title said, a guy named Christian Fletcher want(ed) to sell it.
It's Albion Crecy. It's in itself is modeled after Type XVIa. I don't know if there's a replica of it, but check out the website to see if it's still available. I don't know if there's a replica or not, as it's a real sword. Maybe you can order it dulled.

Yeah, i'm fortunate enough to own one.
She's a 1942 Lithgow Mk. III*
The Stock is actually marked for 1941, but the production date is listed as 1942.
I don't have a bayonet for her though. I don't have the cash to spare right now.

There was a german law in the early 1900's/;ate 1800's that forbade ownership of multiple firearms by individuals.
So someone made that.

>>909161
Very early (and failed) attempt at caseless ammo, 3x50 rounds capacity on the gun, insane rate of fire (2100 rpm) allowed for very precised 3-round bursts... but powered by kraut space magic which didn't work.
>>909170
Designed to fire caseless ammo.
What's tragic is that development stopped not because it didn't work (it did, with some minor kinks to iron out), but the fact West Germany ceased to exist.

There's the classic joke "At the end of the 1980's, Germany had two choices, adopt the G11 as its service rifle or support the unification of the East and West economically, and as always they chose the least expensive of the two".

>>909243
Instead of gunpowder it have solid block of propellant. Also this gun have interesting cycling system.
>>909257
what the hell? but what's that thing on the left? isn't that a casing? what's the thing on the right for? I'm really interested in this gun now
>>909286
>isn't that a casing?
No, it is solid explosive in form of briquette.
>what's the thing on the right for?
Probably thing to hold bullet inside the briquette.
>>909300
oh, I thought the small thing between the bullet and briquette was the explosive. what's that small thing, and how is the explosive triggered?
>>909286
Basically, it's the powder in a solid form, the primer, the bullet and a disintegrating cap. When you fire, the powder is burnt, the primer is either destroyed or the rest are ejected and the bullet obviously leaves the gun, so you have nothing left, no ejection, nothing.
The main problem is overheating, as usual with the german guns...
This gun is really one of the most over-the-top prototype rifle of the 20th century.
>>907992
I'm 'Murrican.
My local gun store gets in a fair number of SMLE's from around the world though. I've seen Indian, British, WWI, WWII, Canadian, all different makes, and even an original Lee Enfield mk. 1 come through the store. I picked up the Lithgow because at the time my store only had a shitty Indian trainer converted to fire 7.62 NATO, and the gun I bought.
>>909257
>>909286
The brown part is a block of solid explosive propellant. It's a type of plastic explosive like c4. The bit between the propellant and the bullet is the primer, and the thing in front of the bullet is a sabot that ensures the bullet fits tightly in the barrel.
>>909307
The propellant is triggered by an electrical charge from the gun, so technically there doesn't need to be any actual moving parts (no firing pin) inside the chamber itself. The G11 has a super complicated loading process though, which has like clockwork parts involved.
>>909243
In manufacturing, the propellant is formed around the projectile, except the front...like a little cake with a metal surprise inside it!
>>909320
this may be a stupid question, but what is the primer for? also, why didn't they keep the shape round (like a normal bullet) and instead went for a blocky shape for the explosive? (does that mean the barrel wasn't a cylinder shape from the inside?)
>>909286
Here's a video where the G11 is talked about, starting at 1:10 up to 4:35, if you're interested in it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96q1vaJhbDk
>>909361
What >>909329
said.
The primer is actually seated in a hole at the base of the propellant and the bullet sits inside the propellant with the sabot at the front. The primer receives the electrical charge from the gun and activates the propellant.
I used to have a great gif that showed the internal workings of the G11 but I can't seem to find it.
>>909361
the primer ignites the propellant
>why didn't they keep the shape round (like a normal bullet) and instead went for a blocky shape for the explosive
storage and carry is easier for items in block from i guess.
bullet obviously has a round cross section and probably goes through a fairly conventionnal barrel.
>>909361
The primer is what set up the explosion that ignite the powder than propel the bullet.
In fact, round is problematic for storage (see squaring the circle), block is much much better for that, that one of the legitimate reason for doing it like so. The bullet is round because it's superior for ballistics, square, not so much (as pretty much everybody but Puckle realized).

And if you want more or less the russian equivalent of a crazy rifle program that was awesome but never delivered, you can also check the AN-94 and the Abakan program. Slightly less over the top than the G11, but still plenty crazy awesome.
If you're interested in weird guns and you can understand basic english firearm terminology, Forgotten Weapons is pretty much fantastic, even if you don't have guns but are interested in the mechanical aspect of them.

No, because a falchion is not a machete. It is specifically a weapon, not a tool sometimes used as a weapon.

>So a modern machete would be considered a nobleman's weapon? Falchion was a good sword because it could actually be used a tool too without it being ruined
this is completely and utterly wrong.
medieval falchions have extremely thin cross-sections, and pronounced tapers, that result in blades that are designed for cutting cloth and flesh, not as tools. though some (the early Conyers' falchion type) are machete-shaped, this does not mean they are machetes - that's like looking at a profile of a VW beetle and a Porsche 911, and assuming they've the same performance. They are specifically designed as weapons, not tools.
the majority of surviving falchions have marks that indicate they were for a high social class - Conyers' falchion has the heraldry of the Holy Roman Emperor, the Cluny Falchion has a bronze pommel with engraving, the thorpe falchion has a valuable enamelled pommel, the castillon falchion had 3 rosettes on the blade damascened in gold. and so on.
>>907648 and >>907746 - that one, the Delft falchion, has lost its crossguard due to corrosion. it would've originally had a crossguard like its twin in Paris' Musee d' Invalides.:

>>920284
Of course it's pretty heavy, it's a compromise design but... it's still more handy that three guns and it's still more legal than three guns where the state regulate you can only have one or two.
Plus people back then weren't really introduce to light-ish firearms as they are today with light metal and polymers, when you look at certain safari guns, it's insane to think that people would be ready to carry such behemoth of guns, but they still did regardless. Besides, when a wild boar is charging at you "heavy" becomes very subjective and "holy shit I can unload two 8mm and one 12ga thing at this beast" becomes a very sensible thing.
Plus, drilling and the likes are rad as fuck, who wants to have a boring .22, everybody got a 12ga, all the veterans have an 8mm, but only you got all three in one gun !
The pepesha is picking beautiful
