Industrialization happened in spite of not because of Stalin, many other authoritarian regimes experienced similar levels of economic growth due to new technology arising in the interwar period. No authoritarian regime achieved the same amount of growth as the tiger or miracle postwar economies. China has only recently achieved this level of growth by using special economic zones, 21st century technology and Dickensian labor practices.
