Is there any possible way to not be a hedonist?
Doesn't every person want to achieve as much pleasure as possible?
Even strictly religious people are basically hedonist, or not?
They want to achieve the most pleasure by getting in to heaven.
I seriously can't think of anyone not beeing a hedonist.
Think about soliders.
War is painful, short, and than you die. Some things are worth suffering for.
If all people cared about was maximizing pleasure we would all be on drugs. In fact we would demand the government pass out drugs to everyone for free as the ultimate spreading of joy.
Pleasure is the emanation of joy

Ya but even soldiers are somewhat hedonistic because they think their participation in war leads to a bigger pleasure for the country etc.
If you know what I mean
There isn't such a thing as a completely selfless act. That doesn't mean it is hedonistic.

Hedonism is self pleasure. A solider is not a country.
What you are describing is utilitarianism, which really doesn't describe the willingness for war. Concepts like duty or honor are evoked by people that volinteer to die in war not "maximizing pleasure"

That's what many people shoot for, but humans can also subsist on meaning. A person can live a life of suffering if they see a purpose for it.

That's only if you assume that all soldiers go to war for selflessness. I can't speak for everybody, but I know plenty people who joined the military for purely personal reasons ranging from glory and social status, to just wanting to kill people.
