Beethoven was a raging equalitarian. He hated all forms of social inequality. There's plenty of stories of him basically saying "fuck you" to the nobility of Europe, he angrily crossed out Napoleon's name from his 3rd symphony when Napoleon crowned himself emperor, and so on. He also hung out with Goethe who was also far to the left of his day.
His attitude was basically that the nobility are not special at all, none of them were as good as him so he showed no respect.
