Stop listening to memes. Most of human history has been incredibly patriarchal and misogynistic, women didn't usually get to a position where they could even have their exploits noted down. It doesn't mean they were 'written out' of history. When a woman performed amazing exploits, misogynistic historians were always astounded and were MORE likely to write about it. e.g. Herodotus and the women of Corcyra.

supposedly as naginata were left at home they became the weapon of choice for bushi women to defend their homes with. It does have a great reach advantage over a sword which supposedly favors women who couldn't expect to defeat men by raw strength alone.
The typical women naginata of the Edo period was short and light, quite a bit different from heavier war naginata favored in the heian through the early sengoku. Surprisingly however many naginata styles that catered to women continued to train with the heavier weapon
