>Have I ever told you the tragedy of the Confederate States of America? I thought not. It’s not a story the Yankees would tell you. It’s a South legend.
>The Southern States were a group of states so powerful and so politically wise, they could use the US Congress to influence the government to allow… Slaves.

Eh.
Rework it a bit and you'd have something. The "could save [...] but couldn't" line is pretty solid
>>
>>856743
I was thinking maybe something along the lines of this:
>Have I ever told you the tragedy of the Confederate States of America? I thought not. It’s not a story the Yanks would tell you. It’s a South legend.
>The plantation owners of the South were so powerful and so wise, they could use the US Congress to influence the government to allow… Slavery.
>They had such a knowledge of politics, that they could even keep the slaves... From rebelling.
>They became so rich, the only thing they were afraid of was losing their slaves… Which, eventually of course, they did.
>Unfortunately, the Southerners rebelled and the Yankees learned all their maneuvers and military tactics. Then they freed all their slaves.
>Ironic. They could stop their slaves from rebelling, but not themselves.

>Is it possible to learn this power?

>Not from a Yankee.
>>
>>856762
Seems worse.
The second line "plantation owners" should include a tongue-in-cheek note about their methods. Something about charismatic speeches that bothered businessmen-elite and made them leave before important votes could be held.
Third line needs something about convincing slaves that they were better off. Allude to either the taskmasters and force or using women to keep them placated.
Etc.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Marcus Junius Brutus the Younger?

"No."

I thought not. It's not a story the Stoics would tell you. It's an Optimates legend. Marcus Brutus was a Optimates Senator so idealistic and brave he could use force to influence the conspirators to take...life. He had such a knowledge of Caesar that he could even keep the republic he cared about from dying.

"He could actually save states from tyranny?"

The wealthy side of the Republic is a pathway to many orgies some consider to be unnatural.

"What happened to him?"

He became so loyal to the Republic that the only thing he cared about was betraying that loyalty...which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught Caesar's nephew everything he knew, then that nephew killed him in Macedonia. It's ironic...he could save others from idealism, but not himself.

"Is it possible to learn this statecraft?"

Not from a senator.

Christ was just a man, a preacher in 1st century Judea, who preached in the apocalyptic style common to the late Second Temple period.

His 'divinity' was an invention by his later followers, and the success of his cult a stroke of luck.

>He could actually keep a Revolution from being suppressed?

Did you ever hear the Tragedy of King Carolus XII of Sweden? Of course not it's not a Story the Russians,Danes, Prussians, Polish-Lithuanians would tell you. Carolus Rex was a Grand King of the Swedes so powerful and so wise, he could use the revolutionary military tactics to influence the Swedish population to create...a low low kill battle victories. He had such a knowledge of the Military, he could even keep the ones he cared about...Firing before they saw the whites of the enemies eyes

He became so powerful, the only thing he was afraid of was losing his wars...which, eventually of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his enemies everything he knew. Then his apprentice killed him in his siege of Oslo. Ironic. He could save others from death...but not himself.
