Ancient Dacians were conquered and cucked hard by the Romans, to the point where they destroyed their language and replaced it with vulgar latin.
After the Romans left, the Goths, Huns, Gepids, and Avars each had their turn fucking the country. The east and south of the country were dominated by the Hungarians and Bulgarians. Then came the Pechenegs and Cumans, who where themselves fucked by the Mongols that also came to fuck Romania.
After the total assfucking that the Mongolians delivered to Europe, there was finally enough of a power vacuum where Romanians were able to establish larger regional autonomy, but this didn't last very long as the Hungarian empire and Bulgarians were reforming, and the Mongols also came back. Regional autonomies basically paid tribute to the Hungarians east of the Carpathians, and the Golden Horde (eventually Tatars) to the west.
Finally, due to internal political strife within Hungary, Romanians grew some balls and broke off completely and acted like independent states. They aided the Bulgarians in fucking over the Byzantines, and basically tried to play off regional powers against one-another.
Then came the Ottomans. Romanians allied themselves with the Hungarians and Polish to fight against the Ottomans and were betrayed. They fought for independence until eventually setting for suzerainty.
During and after the Ottoman empire, Romania was subject to Russia's desires in the northeast, and Hungary laying claimant of Transylvania.
Eventually the Ottoman empire went to shit and the Romanian principalities decided to unite. They had two unsuccessful revolutions until becoming their own monarchy in the 1860s. Ruled by a fucking austro-hungarian.
Then WWII happened and they got cucked by Germany and Russia. Became a puppet state of the USSR from 1947 to 1989.
Finally because their own country in 1989.
