What would modern society be like if we still had neanderthal societies around?(or another hominid species for that matter)

and no I don't think australian aborigines count
>>
>>830390
why would abos count? they have denisovan admixture, not neanderthal
>>
We would probably be super duper racist against all of them.
>>
>>830390
Physically they're basically humans+ so far as I can tell, and we don't know much about them mentally. So in our early history they might have just ruled over us through force.
>>

These prehistory questions should go on /sci/, but whatever. The ancestors of neanderthal left the African continent a long time ago and started to live Eurasia. When homo sapiens left Africa, they interbred with neanderthal to varying degrees and competed with them for resources. Europeans and Middle Easterners have some neanderthal ancestry but East Asians have more because the neanderthal did not die out as fast. Aboriginal Australians passed through Asia on their journey to Australia so they also have a lot of neanderthal ancestry, but they also mixed with denisovans. African populations have no neanderthal ancestry but they may have mixed with another now-extinct hominid native to their continent. This all happened within the span of a couple thousand years. The male and female sexes are more different to each other than different ethnic groups are.

While the nucleotide genetic variation of individuals of the same sex across global populations is no greater than 0.1%, the genetic difference between males and females is between 2%. Humans are still more closely related to each other than different dog breeds are so they died out pretty early and we didn't breed with the other hominids that much. Competition was the key factor to their extinction, rather than admixture. If neanderthals (and other hominids) were still alive then humans would discriminate heavily against them, giving a whole new meaning to the world "speciesism" but they would also continue breeding with them until scientists couldn't tell the difference between our species. This is like how only recently geneticists have discovered that dogs did not descend from grey wolves like once thought and instead they just shared a common ancestor. They were confused because there was so much dog-wolf breeding.

>African populations have no neanderthal ancestry
They do, due to back-to-Africa movements.
>>
>>830631
Africans who never left their land don't have any neanderthal ancestry, and not all members of the African diaspora mixed with whites.
>>
>>830390
There would be no modern society because the neanderthals would be the dominant species on earth, and probably more advanced than us since they had superior brains.
>>
>>830481
Neandethal had stocky and slow bodies to adapt to the colder climate of Eurasia while homo sapiens were thinner and faster because of Africa's climate. They are different bodies and I don't believe either would be able to rule the other with force. Hominids in general aren't adapted to acting as predators and would have to rely on tool use more.

>>830646
Neanderthals have larger brains than humans because they have larger bodies, and brain size doesn't equal intelligence. Besides, they had almost the same degree of encephalization as modern humans The homo sapiens arrived in Eurasia much later than neanderthal but managed to dominate the land not too long after. They interbred with neanderthal but humans across the world don't have much genetic difference with each other so there wasn't a whole lot of neanderthal-human breeding. It was mostly resource competition with neanderthal that led to their demise. A lot of scientists believe that humans succeeded because they had better teamwork and social skills.

>Africans who never left their land don't have any neanderthal ancestry
They do

There was a back migration during the neolithic of eurasians with neanderthal DNA

Everyone from the Khoisan to the Yoruba has it
>>
>>830646
Neanderthals used cruder tools and had more primitive hunting tactics than humans
>>
>>830705
Humans and neanderthals co-existed for thousands of years but the humans become more populous. So they might have overwhelmed the neanderthal with their sheer numbers or killed them off with disease.
>>
>>830721
>humans zerg rushed the fuck out of the neanderthals

>>830712
I know humans are always mixing with each other and neanderthal DNA can be found in Africans (though rare) but this is the first time I've heard of such a migration. Source?
>>
>>830705
Encephelization isn't as important as structural complexity. They could have had brains 3/2 the side of modern human brains and still be dumber had they little grooves and niches in that gray matter.
>>
>>830390
We would just treat neanderthals as the Other more often than other sapiens. There would be repeated wars and interbreeding throughout history until the species is relatively uniform like how it is today.

I'm of the opinion that there can never be two sapient species with advanced civilizations on a planet unless they can't interbreed AND their power is about equal. Otherwise they will either A. Kill and fuck until they're one species or B. Genocide/enslave the weaker one.
>>
>>830705
Didn't the first wave of humans leaving Africa die out or retreat? It was the second migration that had them successfully living all over the world and mixing with other species. Maybe they developed disease immunity.
>>
>>830621
Not only did Neanderthals live longer in Asia but humans lived in Asia longer than Europe. That's why the humans might have bred more with Neanderthals.
>>
>>830390
I feel like this topic should have been posted in /sci/ but I think someone did that once and only got a bunch of stormfags
>>
>>830784
Stormfags think that Neanderthals were some sort of aryan master race who were killed off by hordes of anatomically modern west africans
>>
>>830390
How would the legalities of 'human' rights change?

>Happenings are sometimes organized at which thousands of people
hold hands and form a human chain, say from coast to coast of the
United States, in aid of some cause or charity. Let us imagine setting one
up along the equator, across the width of our home continent of Africa.
It is a special kind of chain, involving parents and children, and we'll
have to play tricks with time in order to imagine it. You stand on the
shore of the Indian Ocean in southern Somalia, facing north, and in your left hand you hold the right hand of your mother. In turn she
holds the hand of her mother, your grandmother. Your grandmother
holds her mother's hand, and so on. The chain wends its way up the
beach, into the arid scrubland and westwards on towards the Kenya
border.
How far do we have to go until we reach our common ancestor with
the chimpanzees? It's a surprisingly short way. Allowing one yard per
person, we arrive at the ancestor we share with chimpanzees in under
300 miles.

They would be considered wild life and kept in preserves.
>>
>>830763
That's the general consensus, yes.
>>
>>830780
I thought humans moved into East Asia around 20,000 years ago
>>
>>830829
People has been in Western Asia/the Middle East a lot longer than that, and that's where you'd see Neanderthal-fucking. We were also in southern Asia longer than we ever were in Europe or East Asia.
>>
>>830390
Racism would be simpler because you'd have guys who were built like gorillas.
>>
>>830829
They're talking about Asia in general. Neanderthal had been in Asia longer than they had been in Europe and Asian peoples would have bred with each other because they're all close to each other.
>>
>>830844
There actually were giant gorilla-like apes living in Asia called Gigantopithecus. They evolved similar features to Neanderthal because they lived in the same climate.

Gigantopithecus were actually more like big orangutans

There would interspecies neanderthal-human fetish porn

And lots of broken pelvises.

Depends on where in East Asia. Humans arrived in North China, Siberia. Korea, Japan around 35,000 years ago. Southern China had a human population for much longer than that, some estimates go up to 120,000 years but I think that's too high.
>>
All humans have neanderthal DNA.

People migrated INTO Africa too. Like the Khoi-san, who may be relatively recent arrivals to South Africa (like a few thousand years ago, not a few hundred like the Dutch, or around a thousand like the Bantu). They replaced people we'll never know.

So the people who crossed the Sahara, who traveled down the East African coast, they sometimes brought wives, they sometimes took wives, they sometimes had 'compensated one night stands'. Either way, the DNA made it to Africa. If it was coding DNA, it is orders of magnitude more likely to have made it.

Not for nothing: anyone here read Guns Germs and Steel? And the Ten Thousand Year Explosion? I recently have.

Isn't it weird how /pol/ used to talk about them, when they're saying the EXACT SAME THING?

>neanderthals
Imagine a race of autistic dwarves with high pitched shouty voices.
