What does /his/ think about Serbian nationalism?

Is it justified? Has its effect on history been negative or positive overall?
>>
Broke up Yugoslavia. Twice.
>>
>>798434
>Is it justified? Has its effect on history been negative or positive overall?

well it's caused the deaths of millions of people

it's shame pan-slavbalkanism died out
>>
About the same as any kind of nationalism. Useful for creating pointless conflict and butthurt but thats about it.
>>
>>798441

Twice? What was the first time?
The Croats were the ones making all the trouble in the first Yugoslavia
>>
>>798447
Before/during WW2 when Serbs went full retard thinking Yugoslavia and Greater Serbia are synonyms.
>>
>>798451

Ah yes, the Chetniks
That said, Serbs were also the largest group in the socialist Partisans
Not to mention the Croats were busy running concentration camps for Serbs and Jews at that time

WWII is one of the least applicable criticisms of this meme, I feel
>>
>>798434
Nationalism is a way for people to go from being exploited by outsides to being exploited by members of their own nation.
>>
>>798434
Serbia sucks

Serbians suck.

No one on /his/ will disagree with me.
>>
>>798462
S-such wisdom senpai :'(
>>
>>798464

The Serbs will, just wait for them to get here
>>
>>798434
Just as bad as any other nationalism. When has nationalism helped anyone post WWI (post WWI because before, the alternative were aristocracy)?
>>
>>798461
Why do you think the Croats wanted independence in the first place
>>

No, because they tried to remove kebab.

Also, all nationalism sucks.
>>
>>798434
>justified
>>>/pol/

History doesn't deal with justification.
Political philosophy doesn't deal with specific instances of justification.
You want politics, >>>/pol/
>>
>>798434
I mean, if you happen to be an idealist who values petty ideas like independence over living standards, then sure, nationalism's great.
If you're a rational person, then not at all.
>>
Not a Serb myself but personally I do think it is somewhat justified, at least in the context of other ethnic groups in the region being strongly biased against Serbs. It's a natural reaction, against some groups more than others.

The Serbs are absolutely to blame for starting many of these conflicts though, but saying "hahaha talk shit get hit, no reason to be upset :^)" doesn't really make anyone feel better.

Kinda pity them t b h
>>
>>798486
This is ignored all the time.

>have a benevolent foreign ruler = oppression
>have a tyrannical domestic ruler = freedom

There's many people who think exactly like this.

How would you ever justify this?
>>
>>798542
Not him, but like he said before: they thought that, because Serbs are the majority, then Yugoslavia should be Serb-dominated. Even now, they hated Tito for "oppressing" them as a majority.
>>
>>798434

Fantastic trend that's been going around /his/ so far: OPs baiting with obviously pointed questions

>What does /his/ think about Serbian nationalism?
hates it, seen all the time

>Is it justified?
no

>Has its effect on history been negative or positive overall?
negative
>>
>>798549
human rights are an abstraction senpai :^)
>>
>>798553
Tito was a Croat.
>>
>>798556
Yes, and? Are you going to go on your knees and worship it too?
>>
>>798550

>gets consistently screwed by other nations out of the blue
gee I wonder how anyone could possibly prefer their own nation to others :^)

NOT regarding Serbian nationalism, just nationalism in general, cause I know some fuck's gonna get triggered if I don't specify
>>
>>798562

Just pointing out that all ideologies / philosophies are abstractions, why even bother believing in a cause

Hell, even that's an abstraction
>>
>>798568
>your own people can't screw you over
>>
>>798559
That's what I mean. Some Serbians hated him, but instead of just seceding after the break-up, they also wanted everything to be Serbia.
>>
Serb here, going to explain the root causes of nationalist hatreds before positive feedback loop went into effect

>ALBANIANS: proxy hate of Kosovars
>BOSNIAKS: cucked by muslims, tried to impose sovereignty over Serbs in Bosnia when they were 35% of the population
>BULGARIANS: got buttmad over Macedonia and attacked us while we were weak a bunch of times trying to get it back
>CROATS: muh catholicism, propaganda campaigns by Austrians to divide the two groups, WW2 death camps
>KOSOVARS: Muslim albanians that slowly but steadily filtered into Kosovo since medieval times, displacing Serbs, being terrorists and somehow getting rewarded for it
>SLOVENES: nobody gives a shit about the Slovenes desu
>TURKS: ruined Serbian prospects in Middle Ages, centuries of oppression, masterminds behind Bosniak conversion and ethnic cleansing of Kosovo
>>
>>798601
>your own people haven't screwed you over yet
>others have
BUT FRIEND CONSIDER LE POSSIBILITY

>>
>>798612
My nation sure as fuck has been screwed by its own people more than foreigners, so yeah. Basically see >>798501 too.
>>
>>798629
to be honest it depends which nation you are
both points of view are valid depending on which experience you've had
>>
This thread is far more civil than I was expecting it to be at first glance

How boring
>>
>>798634
Look at Rhodesia/Zimbabwe for example, their own native nationalist Mugabe screwed them harder than all the white rulers they had before. Or British Hong Kong vs mainland China.
>>
>>798658

Hong Kong didn't want any part of joining China, it's just that they couldn't really prevent them

I mean just look at the map
>>
>>798663
My point is that the HK Chinese ruled by Brits had it much better than the Chinese ruled by Chinese, so it kind of refutes blind nationalism thought that foreign = bad.
>>
>>798657

is there any left of it
>lose yugo wars
>bombed by NATO later on
>lose kosovo
>lose montenegro

i mean, outside of the ppls delusional mind, is there any serious political movement which can be taken seriously and nationalist?

all i see is serbs leaving their country left right and center
>>
>>798669
Hong Kongers are arguably almost a different nation from the Chinese
>>
>>798680

>lose yugo wars
lots of Serbs maintain nationalistic attitudes from hearing about anti-Serb atrocities during those wars. besides wasn't a complete loss, Republika Srpska is still a thing

>bombed by NATO later on
>lose kosovo
general response was "how DARE those foreigners do this to us!"
nationalism strengthened

>lose montenegro
nobody gave a shit about Montenegro anyways

>all i see is serbs leaving their country left right and center
yeah, those are the smart Serbs. The ones left behind tend to be less educated and more nationalist

Serbian nationalism's a peculiar beast in that it's strengthened by failures - I suppose they're just viewed as regular hardships, something nationalism is actually strengthened by?
>>
>>798689
Problem is a country wont prosper if only morons remain behind.
>>
>>798692
Obviously, but it's not the nationalism driving people away, it's the lack of prospects and shitty economy.
Which, if anything, can be blamed on the NATO bombing bankrupting all our industries and destroying 90% of the infrastructure
>>
I supported it until I realized they speak the same damn language as the other 2 tribes
>>
>>798443
I wouldn't throw out nationalism entirely. Nationalism can work as a tool to keep order and civility when the nation lack a good bureaucracy.

Take the relationship with a civil servant and a civilian. In a country with a good bureaucracy that's also considered fair by the civilians, the civil servant have the room to work efficiently, using laws and regulations to work for the state. In a country that's highly nationalistic, I'd argue you can get the same effect by both the civil servant and civilian knowing that any shabby work will damage the nation.
>>
>>798704

Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks are ethnoreligious groups. The only real distinction between them is their faith. It's impossible to be a Muslim Croat or Serb; if you're Muslim and Yugoslovene, you're a Bosniak. Similarly Catholic Bosniaks/Serbs and Orthodox Croats/Bosniaks don't exist.

>tfw balkans is literally Middle East of Europe
>>
>>798708
The Third Reich proved the invigorating effect nationalism can have on a nation
It also proved how wrong it can go
>>
all the justification needed :^)

>>
>>798434
Serbfag here, Serbian nationalism and its self-pitying narcissism is the cause of most, if not all, problems Serbia has to deal with today
>>
>>798721
a lot of nations had a great empire at one point under some great ruler(s). I've seen so many maps showing muh rightful clay, especially in the balkans. Using that as a justification is simply stupid
>>
>>798721
>we were strong once for about 50 years a millennium ago

Wanna know how I can tell you are from the Balkans?
>>
>>798713
Nice claim. History doesn't work like that. If you actually think that nationalism = National Socialist policies and attitudes, you need to read a book.
