One day Eusebius of Caesarea, a Christian historian and polemicist, endevoured to criticize and mock the religion of the Phoenicians in his book praeparatio evangelica.

Keep in mind that, in Eusebius' head, he was disclosing to his readership the most ridiculous and idolatrous beliefs ever contrived. But what does it say exactly?

According to Eusebius, the Phoenicians believed in

>one Elioun, called Hypsistus, (the most high); and his wife named Beruth, and they dwelt about Byblus.

What are you doing Eusebius? For our own holy book says:

>Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High [El-Elyon!], (Genesis 14:18 NIV)

And The Most High had a wife named Beruth? That sounds an awful like the Queen of Heaven... Anyway continuing with the Phoenicians:

>By these [Elioun and Beruth] was begotten Epigeus or Autochthon, whom they afterwards called Ouranus (Heaven)... and Ge (Earth)

Eusebius no! For the inspired word of God says:

>and he blessed Abram, saying, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven [Ouranos] and earth [Ge]. (Genesis 14:18 NIV)

Later on we find that the Ouranus had a son named Cronus, and

>the auxiliaries of Ilus, who is Cronus, were called Eloeim

The Elohim! Eusebius! Why?

Finally, we discover that

>when there happened a plague with a great mortality, Cronus offered up his only begotten son as a sacrifice to his father Ouranus, and circumcised himself, and compelled his allies to do the same

>offered up his only begotten son as a sacrifice
>Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, whom you love--Isaac--and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you. (Genesis 22:2 NIV)

>circumcised himself, and compelled his allies to do the same
>And every male in Abraham's household, including those born in his household or bought from a foreigner, was circumcised with him. (Genesis 17:27 NIV)

Ouch! Proto-Abraham disclosed as a Phoenician deity.

How does it feel to find out that the great patriarch of Judaism, Christianity and Islam is merely an euhemerized Pagan god?

EUSEBIUS YOU STOOGE! NOW THE GOYIM KNOW! THAT'S WHY YOU WILL NEVER BE A CHURCH FATHER!

Oh Eusebius... Better luck next time! I'm sure you're gonna make it to Church Father one day!

Do you have sources for this?

Isn't he pretty much telling what the phoenicians believed?
Phoenicians which everyone knows have some common lexicon with canaanite cultures?
>>
What exactly is the relationship between Phoenicians and Caananites?
>>
>>961146
Yes except that according to Eusebius

>Such were the devices of their worship in accordance with the imbecility and narrowness of their souls.)—Euseb. Præp. Evan. lib. I. c. 10.

Oh the irony. Source above.

>Autochthon

kek, actually pretty funny for someone who understands ancient Greek

Phoenicians were considered Canaanites by Israelites. they were a continuation of the bronze age "canaanite" culture; Tyre and Sidon never fell during the bronze age collapse. course Canaanite is very poorly defined as originally it just was used to mean people living in Canaan, not a specific ethnic group
