Why the fuck was the Lusitania even hit when the Germans knew it would make Ireland, Great Britain, and America flip shit?
Well maybe it was a conspiracy to get them to join the war??? BEHIND THE SCENES STUFF AMIRIGHT?
The Germans were really desperate to stop supplies which is why they stopped and then started unrestricted submarine warfare.

Were they aware that it was a passenger ship?
If it was a conspiracy, the Germans would've at least denied involvement.
>On 8 May Dr. Bernhard Dernburg, the former German Colonial Secretary, made a statement in Cleveland, Ohio, in which he attempted to justify the sinking of Lusitania. At the time Dernburg was recognised as the official spokesman of the Imperial German government in the United States. Dernburg said that because Lusitania "carried contraband of war" and also because she "was classed as an auxiliary cruiser" Germany had had a right to destroy her regardless of any passengers aboard. Dernburg further said that the warnings given by the German Embassy before her sailing, plus the February 18 note declaring the existence of "war zones" relieved Germany of any responsibility for the deaths of the American citizens aboard. He referred to the ammunition and military goods declared on Lusitania's manifest and said that "vessels of that kind" could be seized and destroyed under the Hague rules without any respect to a war zone.[47]

So they fired at a ship full of people.
German logic

Makes sense except for the fact that the Lusitania was clearly a passenger ship? Interesting question OP

The Brits indicated it in their communications that it was a war ship in order to encourage a German attack thus spurning the Yanks to retaliate (and join their side in the war). The British moved their forces out of the area specifically to leave the Lusitania undefended.

because it was smuggling weapons

>German logic
Nationalism's a hell of a drug.

Why was MH17 hit when the Russians knew it would make the west flip it's shit?
You see, the ones firing the torpedo/missile didn't think about that. Besides, Germany had declared the area off-limits for any cargo liners, so they were well aware that they were entering dangerous territory, just like MH17.
Also, Ireland wasn't a country at the time.

It had weapons of board.

Was carrying plans of death star probbly

Read Room Forty by Patrick Beesly. This British Intelligence officer reveals how the whole event was orchestrated by Churchill's Admiralty to spurn the Americans into military retaliation.
The Germans sincerely believed it was a war ship (which, technically, about half of it was). It has nothing to do with barbarian logic or any else you imply.

The Irish people, sorry.
