No.

It doesn't hurt..

No. What the fuck?

He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. John 12:25

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:26

Sooo....

Life does become more abundant and richer because you see the truth and you'll always be looked after, but you also see the evil and sin of the world

>Caring about any of the supposed rules they should be following
>Anything but an identity for channeling ressentiment
Ayyyyyya lad
>>
>>725980
Well it makes since given that Jesus lived a somewhat ascetic lifestyle, not to the extremes mind you, the gospels suggest his ministry had rich patrons, but his followers clearly the believed the world would end soon, and Jesus likely did as well.

So what we have is an extreme sect, living an ascetic lifestyle, and expecting the world was soon coming to an end.

Really the only Christians who come close today are monks,
>>
>>726012
There's still many Christians who "hate" their life even if they live comfortably. I don't think it's so much that you don't get any joy out of life, but the fact that you know that even these luxuries you posess are meaningless and empty compared to the glory of God that comes after our earthly life
>>
>>726026
Gee, if your material trappings don't give you any joy or pleasure, why don't you get rid of them? It couldn't be you have some sort of attachment to them...
>>
>>726035
Nigga I need to eat food to live

I do give when people ask, I've been homeless, it's no big deal to me really. I already said there's some joy to be had but not the kind of joy that comes from God
>>
>>726054
That's practical, But I doubt Jesus was a practical kind of guy
>>
Uh, that depends on what you mean by "hate". Christ says you must hate your life as well as your sister and mother and father and wife. So the "hate" here means your love for Christ has to be paramount, nothing can come before it. He doesn't mean to act like Anakin Skywalker toward your father and brother and wife and mother and so on.

The word used for "hate" here is also a relative term, which is contrasted with love. That is, which comes first in your love, God, or your life (literally "soul"). So you love God more than your life, it can literally mean "love less than".
>>
>>725944
No Don't listen to Nietzsche.
>>
>>726091
That's a good way to put it, I agree
>>
>>725944
According to William James, this is true for every religions.
>>
I was listening to the Christian pop music on the radio and every song was about being flawed and subservient and giving all praise to jesus as the only source of meaning and hope in life.
For about an hour I listened to these songs thinking that if taken at face value I find this is a warped and demented outlook on life.
>>
>>726255
It really isn't warped though if you believe that everything springs from God. Yes, you can love your wife, your kids, your friends, your fellow man, your hobbies etc...but where does all of it ultimately come from? What meaning would any of this have without Him? What meaning would our life have if we weren't made eternal by the power of Christ?
>>
>>726284
That is attributing your real human experience to some external fictional entity. It comes across as this perverse inferiority complex.
>>
>>726384
Well there you go
If you don't believe in God then obviously it would seem wrong to do that you silly goose
>>
>>726397
I'm saying that's how it seems to me because of the way OP phrased the question.
I guess it's not a "hatred of life" but it is putting human existence as a subset of religious belief, whereas I see religion as a subset of anthropology. Christianity is an inversion of natural empathy.
>>
>>726397
There is something very sick and twisted about putting human accomplishments on some distant deity.

It reminds me of how socialists want to basically say everything good in the world happened because of the government.
>>
They can't comprehend any other. It's a sad story, really.

Tolstoy holds that the entirety of Christian theology can be found in the lord's prayer:

>Our Father,
Man is a son of God. Man is the son of an infinite source: a son of that Father not by the flesh but by the spirit.
Which art in Heaven,
God is the infinite spiritual source of life. Therefore man should serve that source in spirit.
>Hallowed be Thy Name,
May this source of life be held holy. The life of all men has a divine origin. It alone is holy.
>Thy Kingdom come,
May his power be realized in all men. Therefore man should serve that source in the life of all men. Such is the will of the Father.
>Thy will be done, as in heaven,
May the will oft his infinite source be fulfilled as it is in himself. The service of the will of that Father of life gives life.
>So on earth,
So also in the bodily life. Therefore the gratification of one's own will is not necessary for life.
>Give us our daily bread,
Temporal life is the food of the true life.
>Each day.
True life is independent of time: it is in the present.
>And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors,
And let not the mistakes and errors of the past hide that true life from us. Time is an illusion of life; life in the past and in the future conceals from men the true life of the present.
>And lead us not into temptation,
And may they not lead us into delusion. Therefore man should strive to destroy the illusion of the temporal life of the past and future.
>But deliver us from evil,
And so there shall be no evil. True life is life in the present, common to all men and manifesting itself in love.
>For thine is the kingdom the power, and the glory,
And may thy power, and strength, and wisdom, prevail. Therefore, he who lives by love in the present, through the common life of all men, unites with the Father, the source and foundation of life. So each two chapters are related as cause and effect.
>>
>>726565
literally retarded.
>>
>>725944
Well yes, you must want a life that is better than your life and thus hate your own life. Only by hating your own life can you desire a better life. Once you have achieved a better life, we call this self improvement.
>>
>>726445
You felt disgusted because in comparision to God, everyone may as well be Hitler, so to attribute everything good to something evil is disgusting, but to attribute all good to something that is infinitely good is only natural.

YOU UNDERESTIMATE JESUS' POWER
>>
And hate others who aren't like you.

This one is very important. Look at christposters for reference
>>
>>727558
That's something all religions from the middle east have in common, muslimposters are the same. Jewposters only same themselves because they're secular.
>>
>>725972
I don't understand that.
>>
>>725944
No, not hate your life but give it to Christ so that he can save you.

What's with the overdramatic picture and color scheme?
>>
Nah, it's just not being too attached to things that won't last (so most things). Monks and nuns are in a lot of cases pretty good examples of this, but obviously not everyone is expected to be a monastic (though everyone can practice asceticism to some degree through fasting, charity, etc.)

not true unless the pope says you should.

Don't do that to yourself m8

Anyone can produce any interpretation of the Gospel based on cherry-picked verses.

Pick you own.
>>

It's more relevant to me because it offers insight into the mentalities of people who form a society around me. Basically keeping tabs on everyone.
My current appraisal is that people want self-help magic.
>>

>My current appraisal is that people want self-help magic
Yeah but it's always been that way, religions like Christianity are basically just a way for people to deal with their shitty lives by being promised a better one later.

It's exaggeration you moron
He's saying that you need to put your faith first

King James Bible - Luke 14:26
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

You must put Jesus before everyone else in your life.

>Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.

>31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33

It's literally about choosing your priorities, you fucking dolt, if you actually bothered to read any of what you're quoting

if you already have love, compassion and forgiveness for all living things, including yourself, then you don't need christianity

but that's litterally no one's case
